How to install sound drivers only?

As I posted in my I Hate Steam Post

, I've been having a weird sound problem in CS:S, so I'm trying to install the latest sound drivers for my mobo. Well the unified motherboard drivers, including all the drivers for the motherboard, are old. But they have some newer sound drivers by themselves. The problem is, I have no idea how to install them.

^That's them. What it is is a zip file, but it doesn't have an install file. It has 2 .exe files, but they don't install anything, they just bring up something weird that I don't know what to do with. If someone wouldn't mind downloading that and seeing if they know what I'm talking about and could help me out I would appreciate it.

Well, I can't help with the install, I don't have an nForce board, but both those files are uninstall files, not install files. I've never seen that before, myself. I did see this on the main page, after I searched for them myself.......

This kit will only update the nForce Audio drivers for nForce and nForce 2.

Products Supported:
nForce 420D
nForce 420
nForce 220D
nForce 220

I'm guessing that you might not have one of those four boards, otherwise the EXE files would uninstall, then install the new drivers. Find out for sure.

yeah he has the nforce 400u ... u should be able to select the sound card/device in device manager.. select update drivers.. and then specify the location of those files^^^ and it should get what it needs and do it for u

Haha, hmm I should have realized that gmoney, thanks. It installed fine, but I still get that gay error in CS:S that no one else has ever heard of, including the makers of the game. So whatever.

whats the error? and have u tried unistalling the entire chipset/system driver package.. and reinstalling the latest .. which is like 5.10 ... ?

The error is: Could not AllocSound() for InsertSound() (DLL)

And yeah I've tried the chipset, which didn't work either, nothing has. So I'll just wait until they update Steam again, I mean surely it will fix it...

I've got the discs, but there are still a ton of updates to download after a fresh install. So if a new update doesn't fix it, then I'll try to reinstall it.
