Alright, I have all alpine type S speakers, and one of my lovely front 5.25's decided to blow. Now, I was wondering if I could get some imput on what type of 5.25 to replace my alpines. I am thinking of getting another set of alpine 5.25 type S's (due to the fact that mine were 3 years old, and the new type S's have higer RMS ratings) Any one have any thoughts to what should grace my front door's presence?

I'd keep them matched w/ your rear speakers and just get the newer S series. Sounds like they just had too much use/abuse in 3 years. I wouldn't blame Alpine quality. Could also have something to do w/ temperature variation (IOWA!!!! WOOT!!!!) and the signal quality of the deck.

Signal quality could be it, just because I used to have bass blockers on them as well.

Actually I went to stereo town (sorry only iowan's would know this) and they really didn't impress me, even the new series that were "the best out there" quoted from the salesmen. When I was at Pflanz (again sorry, iowa thing) and heard the type S's there was no comparsion.

Well, i haven't been able to hear them for about 18 months now, but when i had them in my prism and s10, they sounded very nice. The mids were much nicer and more ?solid? than the MB's at the time

I did notice that the planet audio's did have a nice mid, but for the high they seemed a bit lacking.

First off, are you amping these or running them off head unit power?
If using head unit power, I'd agree with either Infinity or Pioneer sets.
If you are amping them, you've got lots of options. I'd say some CDT's would kick ass, or some Type X's if you're down with dropping dough.

Pioneer makes the best headunit for the money.

Awesome quality and more features per dollar than any brand.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ It didn't sound like he was asking about head units, it sounds as though he was stating that he planned to use his existing head unit to power the front speakers. Very Happy Maybe I'm wrong Confused

what head unit do you have again.?

And you shouldnt need bass blockers unless your head unit doesnt have an HPF.... which it should.

Under my understanding the head unit has full range sent out of the front and back channels, and then you have your pre-amp for the seperate amp. The speakers themselves should have some type of crossover built in them to block unattainable frequences. (at least that's what my type S's say on the box.
