excellent review once again nate... when i saw how u/v reactive that shroud for the fan was.. i almost shat myself .. its nice...

and it seems that the mem is overclocking to the xtpe card spec.. but do u have an idea why the core isnt.. is it just a matter of the voltage being fed to the core?

but over all all of the x800 model cards are monsters... if i had the cash i would get one over a 6800gt

Could be voltage or could be it just is not capable of it.

Sweet card!
Nice review Nate, as always.
Looks like I'm gonna add this to my wish list for my next rig (when I have the $)

Well done. Very nice review.

As much as I hate to say it. (seeing as I am notoriously a NVidia fan) I think I found my next video card.

The review of the 800xl was very informative. What would be the best TV or HDTV tuner card that is available or is coming out to use with this card? Thanks for the help!

You say "directly out of the case though the back ventplate" but in all the pictures it sure appears the plastic is closed off and would restrict air flow? It’s something I could fix but it seems a little strange they just don't open that end up. Am I not seeing something correctly? Other than that is surely one of the best values in PCI-e graphics cards going. Although, here’s a question I really haven’t heard the answer on, is there any real difference in performance from comparable AGP card and PCI-e base systems? Or at this point are we going to need to wait until manufactures really start take full advantage of the PCI-e bandwidth. Not in the market today, but it might be the card to step up to the next time.

Long winded… I know!

I don't what you are talking about with the cooling? It intakes through the fan and blows through the heatsink and right out the back of the case.

PCI Express hasn't really shown any real performance improvements.

It is just a new standard to have enough bandwidth for future computer systems.

4th picture down,

I'm assuming this is what you are talking about?

That picture is kind of deceptive, I suppose.
The plastic you are seeing as closing off the airflow, is actually the bottom plate of the fan duct, and in no way closes of the airflow

OK, I see it now... But, boy-oh-boy that picture, it just didn't give the perception of an opening. Thanks for clearing things up. This review beat the 3dGameman video review, even if his has those moving pictures.
This is why I have trepidation in moving to the next generation stuff, PCI-e graphic cards (so far) haven’t taken any advances, while DDR2 is in its infancy and still overtly expensive. I see myself holding off on building on some of this latest generation stuff for probably close to a year.

In the comparison of the 800xl to the 800xt I noted that the 800xl does not have Vidio IN. What limitations does that put on the uses of the 800xl??

Nothing other than not being able to input video from an outside device directly onto the computer.

Does this mean if I get the 800XT I could record from my TV monitor (Sony HT95W with Tuner) instead of using a tuner card on board?

Does you TV have a video out?

And why would you do this if you have a TV right there.

Seems really foolish.
