i know i know, use firefox......i do on my pc, and can tell you just about what anything does when you type in about:config in the addy bar....however...
IE crashes to desktop everytime it's opened. I'm scratching my head on this one myself.
Spybot, adaware, cwshredder, avast bootscan, no virii, no spyware or malware it seems like.....still when i open it crashes.
reset websettings, disabled third party browser extensions, nulled security settings (like that would help) delete temp files, history, cookies....still no avail
i went to a/r programs removed it from there, deleted all the items in the program files folder....reinstalled it from a disc i have the setup files on, still crashes.
and so i'm at a loss, i would tell them to use firefox, but they are a specialized business and their apps need IE to run...i know there has to be a way around this crashing other than reinstalling winders.....there always is. _________________ We have enough youth, how about a fountain of smart. |

try download CWShredder here http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads
Its a neat little app for killing bad 'browser helper objects' or BHOs. Dload it and see if it helps _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock

You said your biz needs IE for some of its programs........it's possible one of those programs is crashing IE, not IE crashing itself. I've had that happen in the past, but it's rare.
What exactly are you doing when it crashes, with the rest of your system? There's quite a few reasons it could be closing down, there's been odd problems with IE closing when the buttons are set to XP style, if you're using a script debugger, that can crash it, among other things. In these cases, reinstalling might not help, the bug is still there.
Try this (if you already haven't). Go to your Display Settings, and switch your theme to Windows Classic Style, turn off all the fancy animations, etc, and try IE again. Reboot into Safe Mode with networking, and try IE from there, failing that, you might have to do an XP repair, if you don't want to reinstall everything.
What programs does your work use that require IE? That would really be the first place I'd start looking, maybe reinstall those apps. _________________ Big enough to scare you |

it's a warranty claim service, they process all the warantties for jags, fords, toyota/lexus, and quite a few of the smaller auto shops in the upstae ny area.
good call on that xp style...i'm leaving for richmond in a few minutes so i'll try this on my monday appointment with them...i'll let you know how it turns out... _________________ We have enough youth, how about a fountain of smart. |

Dude, your Avtar an Sig are way to big. The Avtar should be no bigger than 6kb and the sig should be under 20kb and no larger than 100 x 500 _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock

Hmm I have the same prob... although it happens after maybe 3 site changes... Also Ebay was a total loss... It would switch to Google as soon as the page loaded... and reset my homepage to google.com, Which originally is my Website. so What gives.... I just gave up and use firefox now. _________________ Remember When Sex was safer than racing???
