so now you are getting a 19 CRT monitor?
keeping up with you on this board is almost like having my own kid!
Frankly, if you are going to go with a CRT, then i would get a model made by KDS. They have a 3yr advance replacement policy called KARES.
A number of the 19" models they have are all way under 200.00

| I checked out the KDS monitors, and read some reviews on them. They have good prices and all, but they arent as high quality as the high end viewsonic monitors. I am just going to get a viewsonic. They have pretty good reviews, there fairly cheap, and my friend has one that is awesome with games, and pretty good with text. Do you have any recommendations on viewsonic monitors? |

just as with anything out there....they have had good and bad models.
I have never personally owned a Viewsonic, but i have had one NEC Multisync 21" and two KDS 19" units.
Never had a single problem with any of them.
I used to sell the viewsonic line, but i was never terribly impressed with them to chose them over manufactureres.
not sure if this will come through or not but here:

One of the reasons I do prefer the KDS units is the KARES system....you realize the importance of an advance replacement system if something should go wrong?
Monitors are fairly robust, and usually unless it is DOA....they last quite some time!
If you did have the Viewsonic....to get warranty work you:
| Viewsonc wrote: | | Bring or ship the product prepaid in the original container, with the associated accessories, to ViewSonic or any ViewSonic authorized service center. |
and that means shipping a 50lb box away via ground services (unless you have the LARGE wallet to support some sort of priority shipping), and waiting for word on your claim, then waiting for a repair to be done, then shipped back...of course they might just send you a refurb if the repair is too coslty for them.
whereas with the way the KARES system works is that they send you a replacement FIRST and then you send yours in. In the first 90days, KDS will pay for shipping both ways for their DOA service....after the 90 days, you pay shipping to KDS (but KDS ships to you for free)....etc read more here:
http://www.kdsusa.com/supports/warrantyInfo.asp
Bottom line is that there are good units and bad units of both....but the Viewsonic is about 100.00 more in price than the X Flat series for the same size units.....and the dot pich is not as fine either.
it's your money...if you like what Viewsonic has to offer and understand the post sale details...then go for it. |

I would go with DMW on this, KDS makes some really good monitors that don't kill your wallet.
Just a question dude, how do you know that Viewsonic are better quality? Is that what Viewsonic told you?
Have you owned a Viewsonic or a KDS? If not, you need to back up why you think they are better? Because they are more expensive?
Viewsonic as of late have been caught lying about the contrast ratios on their TFT monitors, so, I wouldn't put a whole lot of trust in their claims.
I'm going to be a little hard on you because it's consumer thinking like this which gets people ripped off. _________________ Owner & Administrator

I no, Viewsonic didn't tell me they were better then KDS...lol if they did, I wouldn't believe them. I mean what are they going to say; Were worse? I think both KDS and viewsonic make good monitors. I have an older viewsonic CRT, and I loved it. I here good and bad things from KDS. but the KARES thing is just awesome. Its a tuff choice, I might even go with Mitsubishi. They make a model called the Diamond Pro 930SB, which supports 1600x1200 @ 85Ghz, and has some pretty awesome reviews. Before I purchase an Item of such great cost, I usually wait atleast 3 days. I am going to single out the one that I want, and then do that.
By the way, do any of you guys know if www.pcworld.com is reliable?
thanks for the help! |

PCWorld is reasonably responsible and they were the site that exposed Viewsonic for saying their contrast ratios were higher than they were in real life.
In today's market, you don't have to spend a considerable amount of money for a good product. _________________ Owner & Administrator

Well, PCWORLD has the GS790 on the top 10 list. Its either that, or the Mitsubishi 930SB what do you think?
thanks |

Buy the viewsonic then, I'm tired of trying to save you money.
If you want to dish out more money for something that is marginally better, go ahead.
Must be nice to afford expensive hardware all the time. _________________ Owner & Administrator

All I am saying is don't judge a book buy it's price. Save some money, buy the KDS and you will have extra to get more ram or something else.
Buy what you want dude, I'm just trying to help you not get hooked into something that is not better, but costs more.
Good luck _________________ Owner & Administrator

good point. I'll just do that. I mean god you can get a 19" CRT for like $160, how can you go wrong with that? I'll just do that, see how it goes.
thanks |

| i would avoid viewsonic just because of their level of service... or dis-service, if you will. i have had to deal with them due to a faulty 19" that i purchased, and i had to send it back three times. the third time, i made certain to get on the phone and i had to raise my voice before they would actually listen (which to me denotes a complete lack of respect for your clients). they wouldn't reimburse me for the faulty monitor, but they did give me the next model up. i've had it for three years now, and for the last few weeks, it has begun spontaneously losing power. i believe it is overheating as it completely shuts down and i cannot power it up for several minutes... unless i smack it on the side (i know, i should do that, but frustration sometimes sets in). so i'm not certain if it is a loose connection or a power failure due to heat. either way, i am not impressed with the company or their product. |
