i'm starting to design a case (from the ground up to be manufactured)
problem i'm running into is that i can't seem to find the dimensions of things such as 5.25 bays and 3.5 bays (screw spacing and whatnot) and the pci spacing and relative position to the i/o shield

so i was wondering if anyone here might know these things, or would know where to find such information
promise to show pictures once it's all designed and build and stuff (many surprises)

not sure if this helps, but here is a thread from bit-tech forums that might interest you (i have 3 posts there, lol)

http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=46003

they are layouts for a program called "sketchup", (free, I believe), 3D models of PC components

Thanks for the help, sketchup doesn't really help all that much, as it doesn't have enough measurements, as far as screws and such goes, and the atx (for motherboards) is available at formfactors.org

Although i could measure alot of my components (some i won't have much choice) it wouldn't be accurate enough... i can only have +/- .005in error...

The best thing that I can think of is go to some used computer store and but a cheap cheap ass ATX case and take parts from there.

how about removable hd racks.. that are positioned 90degrees from standard positioning....

and make sure fans are easily removed for cleaning purposes... uhm dust filter holders.... uhm.. removable mobo tray definately... non obstructed air flow paths....

dood... that is sick ur gonna make a case... cuz u have all the experience.. you would think all these companies have such great experience but they dont show it.... good luck

meobius......do it........

go nuts man.....totally revolutionize atx cases as we know it......think about goo suspension.......=]

seriously though...i remember a while back i believe 2old was talking about having all the wires come out of the bottom of the case instead of the back......hmmmmm slight angled bottom with rails for leveling out.....mobo mounted off the bottom to make room for plugs.....it would take cooling to a new level with the chip being the lowest part in the case....=D
