anyone know a program that converts Nullsoft Streaming Video to MPEG? or AVI?

It should be reverse compatible shouldn't it?

I have successfully converted NSV into a compatable MPG file for dvd use.

First of all you will need the following programs:
TMPGEnc to convert the audio and video file to an MPG
You will need nsv_demux.zip which contains the file NSVD.exe
On2VP3VideoForWindows.exe this is the codec which allows you to read the VP3 AVI file in windows and in TMPGEnc for conversion
and any program which can convert mp3 to wav

All of these programs are free.

The process is as follows after you aquire all of the software.

1) Install all of the software : ) easy enough
2) Use NSVD.exe in comand promt with the following command structure:
D:\NSVD.exe -n input.nsv -a video.avi -w audio.mp3
3) convert your output mp3 to a wav file
4) TMPGEnc to combined your two files into one mpg file...when i converted into mpeg1 the video was quite jumpy so converted with the following settings:
Mpeg2
30FPS
Interlace ON
Under advanced i selected noise reduction and sharpen edge just for the hell of it.

and wala...however u spell that a working conversion which can now be burned to a dvd or vcd

YAY...took me like a couple of weeks of lazy internet surfing every now and then to get that to work... enjoy the process is short if u have a fast computer :)

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to make my .nsv into .avi but I cannot find NSVD.exe ... I have tried the 2 links above but cannot find the exact file...

Could someone please give me a direct link to nsv_demux.zip ?

Yeah, none of the mentioned links work; and you can't discuss it in the winamp forums.

Anyways, here is one trick I've got to convert NSV into MPEG.

download NSV_Cutter from the net like scvi.net

use a macro manager and design a macro so that nsv_cutter exports each of the frames in the NSV video as a jpg file. Make sure that the names of the exported files are in a series.

In TMPGenc, enter the location of the first jpg file as the video source andd TMPGenc will autmoatically treat all of the files as a video. Now ajust the frame rate (this is a seperate mind boggling topic. I'm not discussing it here, u can search on the net)

Export the file as any type of *.avi or *.mpg you like.

Please note that if you are going to use the resultant file for DVD/VC recording; you'll have to re-encode the file. This may reduce quality . For minimum quality reduction; encode all of the jpgs into a no-compression avi (all frames uncompressed).

This ensures that there is no quality reduction in the first step (however, you'll need some 2 gigs for a 5-min file; but its worth it). The quality would be affected only when you re-encode the file into DVD/VCD compatible mpg.

This is only for extracting the video. I use high-quality mp3s of the same song for the audio source. But if I'm not wrong, nsv_streamcutter vlets you rip the audio which is handy if you don't have the mp3. However, having a high quality mp3 ensure that you get a good audio that oesn't nag you while watching the VCD.

Note - I have aviced some people with this trick who have succee in doing so. However, my nsv files were corrupted; so I could not do the jpg ripping part myself. All the things that are told after that have been one by me since ages (mostly used for making avi files out of frame-by-frame animations).
