h2o, wind, vapor, uhh..??

hey, i was just wondering, (im running just regular case fans right now) and i wanna know if a water cooled system actually makes any difference at all?? i find it hard to believe that water would be an effiecnt enough substance in transfering heat away form a waterblock... i mean in reality 1) is water cooling even necessary..(if you oc..) 2) does it allow you to actually OC higher?? 3) what kind of difference does it make versus regualr fan colling.. what about heat pipes? are they any good? and vapor systems.. i see those things going for around 1 large bone (thousand bux) can those things actualy make a huge difference?? i plan on OC as much as i can.. so should i be going with a water cooled system instead of just wind?? is it noisier? is it worth the money? and if yes.. i know how to build my own (read enough DIY guides to PC cooling, but is it better to just buy a kit? or self make one?

well take it like this... the cooler the cpu core is the more stable it is. so water itself can indefinitely cool better than the best heatsink/fan combo since it can cool faster than metal (when ran through a radiator) and at the same time you actually carry the heat directly away, not to mention the advantages of losing the necessary fans to keep your air cooled system on the down low temps. The vapochill systems go even further by using refridgerants. Check the product review section for both types of cooling systems... Are they necessary? No not really, you can get great oc'ing with air cooling, can you go further with the other two, Most likely yes, but not always. you lessen the risk of burning out your cpu due to the OC'd core and the temps that arrise with that.

A really good heatsink (silent tower with two 92mm tornados) is about as good as watercooling... Remember with both water and air cooling the lowest possible temperature is the room temperature. with water cooling, it moves the heat away from the cpu to a radiator which then absorbs the heat from the water and sends it to the air.
With vapour your using compressed gasses to cool your cpu. Usually temperatures in the negative degrees celsius are not unheard of.

The colder the cpu is running, the less resistance it provides allowing for higher overclocks at lower voltages.
