Okay I have a really crappy computer when it comes to being able to mod it and stuff. It is a HP Pavilion 700 I think and this thing keeps overheating sometimes while im playing counter-strike. and well I wanna do something like this too it: http://www.twistedmods.com/article.php?artid=169&page=1

(including fan) but How do I install a new fan into my computer? I dont even know if thats possible with this thing Sorry for not knowing anything but I really dont know much about my motherboard or whatever I connect it too. This is what my computer looks like inside without case on:

(see no room) lol but that big white case in there connects two diffrent types of fans, do I need that there because I seen some computers with the two fans there but no cover guide thingy.

Thanks for helpin me out

The best advice i can give you is to intake air from the front and bottom and exhaust it to the top and back.

A blowhole would be a nice addition if you could fit it. Otherwise, you MIGHT be able to put a different fan with a higher CFM rating in where that duct takes air away from the processor.

Yep...higher cfm on the duct,,,and you can put a small fan in the front for intake on that case.
BUT...remove the duct [temperarily] and clean...also check heat sink clips to make sure all is connected well.

^^what he said

Those Duct-cooled OEM computers are notorious for collecting dust, as the air comes in from only one side. get a can of compressed air, and remove that duct, and blow all the crap out of the entire case, paying special attention to the CPU heatsink, rear fan, and the area in front where the air comes in.

I'm sure an aftermarket heatsink would fit if you removed that duct, but these type of PC's don't usually have a heat problem if you keep them clean inside

Riiiiight....I am lost for the most part. Like I told you I really dont know anything about the inside of a computer so can I take out the duct thingy and have replacement fans take over from it not being there? Because the duct thingy would look odd if I modded the case so theres a window...Also..what are heatsinks? lol

What they are saying is that you would remove the duct, then replace the fan and the heatsink (Heatsink-i large piece of finned metal used to draw heat away from the processor. There are hundreds of places you can get a new heatsink and fan for your computer. Just give us some specs and we can help you out! :)

I see that near your duct, you have a white connector (its called a molex connector) its what you use to connect up a new fan.

K but theres only one "molex connector" does that mean I can only hook up one more fan?

That white connector being the one that comes out of your power supply (Big box thingy with all the chords spilling out of it ) That mod is possible for you to do and its not that difficult. let us know your specs ( Info about your machine: prosessor speed, memory, Hard Drive space). If you dont know about these things I would suggest researching them in google

Yeah you should have read all of the posts, I know its possible but with one molex connector, does that mean I can only have one fan? or can you get like splitters for it or something?

Most fans that use that connector, have a pass-thru. That means that once you hook one up, you can piggyback another right behind it. :)

LMAO!!!! christmas lights, what they said, my rents have a hp verty similar to that one. Keep the duct there because it draws the hot air out of the computer. Do clean it out like everyone else said. You can set any fans to be intake or exaust. There isnt a special kind, it depends on which direction the fan is facing wether it is intake or extake.

Yeah, it's a problem with that type of machine. To use an aftermarket heatsink/fan, you have to have the proper bracket on the motherboard, which machines like Dell and HP that use the duct cooling don't have, so be warned......you're pretty much stuck with the ducted cooling you have now.

Like the other guys said, though, take that duct off, clean it thoroughly, clean the fan off (a half-inch of cat fur on the fan won't help cooling at all, trust me), make sure it's not pushed in close to a wall, or in an enclosed space, like the CPU cubby in a computer desk, and you should be alright. As much as I dislike prefab computers, the cooling is usually designed pretty well around the CPU for normal usage. Just don't try to overclock the thing, for God's own sake.

K thanks and one more question about that I think and I should be good, wich way does it go for intake and outtake? like is intake blow air into the computer to cool it down and exhaust blows hot air out of the computer?

yes exactly. There is normally an arrow on the fan indicating air flow direction, if not then u can tell by seeing which way it turns and how the blades are oriented.

Looks really cramped in there, I would replace your existing fans with some of higher CFM and leave everything else alone.
