lol....not sure where YOU shop....but the price of 512MB of PC2700 is only $1.00USD more than 512MB of PC2100.

I wouldn't really call it "extra money".

try www.tcwo.com I make a lot of purchases there, and just last month RMA'd a stick of RAM that was 3 years old. They pretty well stand behind everything they sell. Shipping is cheap too. I used to live a few miles from them, but now it's cheaper for me to order being out of state and not paying state sales tax........lol

BTW, even if your board doesn't support PC2700, it will still operate at the highest speed that it can support....hence 2700 acts like 2100 if that be the case.

Actually, I've always known Crucial to be one of the best places to buy memory. I suppose I misphrased my initial post - I know the price difference between the two is negligible, but I was wondering if it would be worth it for me to replace my current 256MB of PC2100 with 512MB of PC2700. I can get 512 MB of PC2700 for my K7S5A for $ 65, the only question is will the difference be significant enough to justify the upgrade? I appreciate your comments and advice.

hehe, in THAT case if the PC2100 is working fine then I would just leave well enought alone (but that's just me)...

You board is similar to that of the AMD760 and KT266 chipsets....good performers, yet budget oriented compared to what is currently available. You can can a new K7S5A for about what that one stick of ram will run you.

Save the money and put it towards a faster CPU (unless you are maxed out) or possibly a better video card.....these are items, that you would likely see more of an improvement from an "end user" point of view.

As for Crucial, yes their high end stuff is good, but I think it's a bit overpriced and overkill for an average person just looking to increase memory amount. If someone doesn't know what type of memory they need, then their "select you memrory" walk through is appealing.
There are many good sites that offer RAM that meets the JEDEC requirements as reasonable prices....just try to avoid places like "bobs_memory_outlet.com "
Nathan"]It depends, does your motherboard support pc2700?
How do you know if the motherboard supports pc2700 and if it doesn't, is there any harm if you still use it? Can we use PC2100 and PC2700 together?

Thank you.

It will default to the fastest that the motherboard can handle which in your case I think is PC2100 and will run fine.
