So, the geforce 4 ti 4200 should arive by tommorow. When I took out my ATI radeon 9500 pro, I foolishly forgot to uninstall the drivers for it. Will everyting be ok if I just install the card, quick go and delet the radeon drivers, and then get drivers from Nvidia's website? Also, this kid mentioned that before you start up you OS, it would help to go into the BIOS, and reset configuration data. Would that reset all your hardware data, if so, that doest seem to be very good

You don't have to reset your bios because you changed your videocard. I would question your friend's advice there. It is no needed.

Do you still have the 9500?

If not, when you insert the new card, it will detect it and will try to install it. Don't use the included drivers because they will be old. Just cancel the driver installation and get the latest videocard drivers from nvidia or somewhere on the net and use them to install it.

But before you do that, go into your device manager and remove the radeon 9500 from your display adapters and then go into add/remove programs and uninstall the drivers.

No, I returned the Radeon 9500 pro, I ordered an MSI geforce 4 Ti 4200. I will question my friend about that Nathan, it didn't sound right to me either.

So, whenever you start up the OS with new hardware, it will search around for a crappy driver, and try to install it, if it cant it will start the "found new hardware" wizard. Should I cancel all that stuff, and go strait to the newer drivers from from nvidia?

Your really helping my so much guys, I feel very happy with this forum. I now how to install a video card, just wanting to make sure about the older driver.

First off, before you install anything, remove the ATI drivers and remove the card from the device manager.

When it tries to install the new driver, just point it to where the new drivers you downloaded are.

Or, if the driver file is an excecutable, cancel the windows install and then when you get to the desktop click the file and allow it to install.

Ok, so heres what I'll do:

1. Install the hardware
2. Start up the OS, cancel the windows drivers, unistall the ATI drivers.
3. Go into device manager, and delete ATI radeon.
4. Imediately Nvidia's website, and download the drivers.

That sounds about right eh?

Yes, then reboot to make sure ATI is gone and install the Detonators.

Sounds great! I'll tell you what happens . do you recommend the latest Detonator drivers. My "friend" said the 41.09's are much better then the latest 43.45's drivers.

Thanks

I'm not up to date with the detonators, im pretty well strictly ATI here.

You will have to do some research.

if you are using winXP then you will notice that it is partuicularly forgiving when it comes to swapping components...
if you are set on being safe, then just start the PC in safe mode (hitting F8 during boot and select "safe mode") because this will make the OS use default VGA drivers and not the ATI ones.....then you can just uninstall any software applications or managers that the ATI brought (in the "add remove programs" section of the control panel) with it and also remember to delete it from the device manager (it might not even be there when the NVidia is in).

then just get the new drivers you want to use....XP has default Ti4200 drivers as well.
use the ones you like.

no worries!
