One more question for you guys. In my quest to have a fast computer for my graphic design, i need to quiet it down a little bit as well. I was wondering if any one knows of the best way to keep the noise down, while keeping the processor nice and cool ( tricky part: no watercooling, or large HEAVY headsinks) any thoughts?
Thanks again
-one little side note, also looking for a quiet ps around 450+ watt range too.... |

Bigger fans move more air per revolution, and are inherently quieter. If you can fit 92mm, or better yet, 120mm fans, you will reduce a lot of noise _________________ Yeah....... ok |

Well, if big heatsinks, water cooling and |I guess big fast fans are out, there is really only one efficient way to cool quietly, a "heat pipe". Mount a heat pipe to the CPU and lead it out of the back of the case, use a small quiet fan on the cooling fins and you should get good results. With the cooling fins being external, it may be possible to run without a fan at all, but you would need a good sized heat pipe for this.

Anything larger than a 80mm is too big, unless i mod the case (its an old antec server case)
SS, where could i find a good heat pipe for my system? |

Take a look at thermalright heatsinks. If they don't look to heavy, couple them with a panaflow fan(92mmish if it fits) _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

Well, it depends on the space you have and how you want to mount it (internal or extrernal). You might have to get one made up to exactly fit your requirements, but you should be able to find a fairly standard setup that you could use and fit to your case. here is a list of manufactures:
http://www.kellysearch.com/us-product-47096.html
here is a light weight heat pipe, not seen a review on this, so I dunno if it's any good:

also:

Check out e-bay, you should be able to pick up a bargin there.
Do a google search, plenty of info out there.
It is *possible* to make your own, but it will not be as efficient as a manufactured one. I've tried to make one before, got some interesting results from it, but I could never get the pressure low enough for it to work right.
A heat pipe and a peltier make a GREAT combo for overclocking!

Yeah, check out this one, it can use a 120mm fan for you HSF. with this baby and some ducting you shouldn't need any other fans, well, maybe one small one to help extract the air.

Those are some great ideas. Definately good for cooling . . . is weight still an issue? Maybe a diet is in order? _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |
