It seems to me that we have a very small number of our members helping us in our fight to cure diseases. D2ol is a very good program that can be set to run in the backround and overnight in your computer systems. Even if it only processes a single item a week it could be that one item that help to cure sars or smallpox. Currently we have 14 members on the team and 2,500 ish tweaknews members. I think that we can do better than that. Read about the program in this thread, http://www.tweaknews.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3512&start=0
To join the team download this program here:
http://www.d2ol.com/dOL/download_instructions.html

And then register with the team at this link here:
http://app.d2ol.com/memberServices/teamProfile.jsp?id=6544

If there are any questions regarding the program or set up feel free to pm me or anyone else on the team and well help you set it up.

For a starting goal lets see if we can get enough machines running to at least match what Kog Weazel is putting out (preferably double) because he is and has been the anchor of the team and we all thank him very much for his resources!!!

Thank you for the post Frnch. As this is something that I have been thinking about for some time. But you, my friend, have worded it beautifully. We welcome all of our members to help us out in this great cause. Frnch said it best even if you put out one unit a day that might just be the one that finds a cure. I dont know about everyone out there but I know since I became a father I want to help in anyway I can. We all have some pretty sweet machines lets put their idle time to good use.

Thank You everyone!

I don't think I understand this whole program thing. Is it kinda like a program that gives researchers access to our computers for how ever much time we alot to them.. And they run processes using our resources to help find cures? So like instead of only bein able to do very little with the systems they have.. They instead are able to use computers world wide to run more combinations to come up with cures quicker...

Maybe I'm way off on this.. But some more explination of what this is actually for would be helpful. :)

Not quite.

You have complete control over your PC at all times. Basically you install an application that downloads some tasks of the researcher's website. It then uses your CPU to crunch some numbers and then uploads the results back up to their servers.

You can start and stop the app at any time.

Once I've got my computer finished I'll have atleast 12 hrs to donate each day. :)

Yes it runs in the system tray...you can also control how many tasks and when to update if you wish. That way someone with dialup could spend time downloading tasks for a week, do them, and return the results when they get back online. Or leave it alone and it automatically downloads 50 tasks and returns results every six hours.
And yes, it is processor only intense. So i can surf or write emails etc. without turning it off. If I need to game I just right click the icon in the system tray, turn off the task engine while I play, the reverse turns it on when I'm finished.

This is actually a nice little proggie. When its loaded, i run it 24/7 no matter what's going on. I notice no changes in gameplay.

Basically, this utilizes the power of modern processors to run very intensive calculations. It then determines the best possible configuration of a candidate to combat a specific illness. NO harm to your computer whatsoever. In fact, its not bad for testing for stabity. Gotta give something back to the universe =P

I don't notice a slow in gameplay.. but I do notice temp differences. Just somethign to think about if you are going to game hard with it on. Other than that, I forget its running.

It just uses available resources from the CPU...so if you play a game, the game will affect it...not it affect the game, if you know what i mean. It just calculates slower, and yeah, temps are higher.

Correct me if im wrong in thinking this

For the most part, you are correct.
But, when I'm in the middle of a firefight...I want no hesitations, if you get my drift
I leave it on for everything except graphic intense games made in the last couple years. D3, UT2K4, HL2, etc.

Oh, its explained somewhere around here, but basically it uses your computers processor to run intensive calculations on possible drugs to combat diseases. Instead of these big companies buying supercomputers, they use Weaz's crays and our computers instead. It saves them alot of money and they can get alot more done with our help.

Nope havent fired up the Crays yet they are still playing tic-tac-toe.

I still need to get the three older computers that I just got up and running. Might be able to get them fired up tomorrow. Then I should be able to get in the top 100 all-time here in about a month. As it is I just moved into the top 130.
