You could, but, you will have to relax the ram timing all the way to push it that far. _________________ Owner & Administrator

yes, it is, I should have said ram timing's seeing that there is more than one.
Do a little research on the net. _________________ Owner & Administrator

for what purpose do you wish to run synchronized?
what exactly do you think you are going to gain? |

From the research that I have done, running in synchronized mode is much faster. And my timings are 5-2-2-2T I think, I cant quite remember.
Thanks for the help |

ok, My processor only has an option to do 100, 133, and 166. Do I have to unlock it or something? my memory timings right know are at 5222T and it says its by SPD, and they cant be changed. So how would I do that?
Thanks |

| do you recommend i change the bus speed of the ram or cpu, or just the speed of the cpu? |

you would have to find a multiplier then when used with the FSB would generate a clock speed your CPU likes.
(IMHO)
your chances would be better with RAM rated above the PC2700 value (since that RAM is rated at 333). You might get there if everything is perfect.
But that includes the best of power supplies, cooling of the CPU and a host of other items too.
"synchronus" @ 400MHz...doubtful
"asynchronus" @ 400MHz... should be fine.
you have to come to terms with what you think is important.
do you value "all out clock speed" and want the highest frequency rating with synchronus timing?
or do you want maximum throughput on the memory side?
there are trade-offs to each, and you must decide what is important to you. either way, you should be grateful the CPUs today can even be OCed at all. AMD and intel could "LOCK" these things down easily enough, but they leave the back door open just enough. 3 or 4 years ago, this would not have been possible.

time for the calculator...
you know that DDR runs at 2Xs the CPU FSB...hence the name "Double Data Rate"
100CPU=200
133CPU=266
166CPU=333FSB
(these are default settings)
the CPU should have a setting that defaults to the "hardware" setting.
you need to change this to the FSB that you wish to use.

your book that you got with the board explains how to change the settings in the bios...they don't take the time to print it just to show you where to put the processor...
the ram is directly affected by the FSB setting.
if the memory is good...then it will do take the 200 setting.
your board has the ability to lock the AGP and PCI timings at their default 66MHz....plz do this.
obviously we ant the most memory bandwidth with the least amount of CPU stress....
so as the FSB is raised, the CPU "ratio" or "multiplier" should be dropped.
There are MANY forums dedicated to this particular board....and tweaks or reviews are plentiful.
this is some fundamental OCing that you need to understand...I suggest that you do some real digging for a few days at least and read every article you can find on this board and basic OCing techniques.
here are a few links for memory issues:

Thanks a lot for all the info DMW!
I went into my Bios, and messed around with things, just to see what was possibly. And of course, I exited without saving. The manual helped me some, but you helped me the most. I think I just might keep the memory timings at the lowest, and just set the CPU multiplier to like 12.5. My only concern is the voltage. I looked all over for information on that, but wasnt to lucky. What if I put to much voltage to my CPU? will it try it or something? The only information i can find about it is what to set it at with what settings, but i want to know more about it I have an A7N8X Deluxe, corsair PC2700LL ram, and Barton 2500+. Arctic silver 3, with SLK-800A. 5 case fans, my cpu is idling around 35C, so temps shouldn't be too much of a problem
Let me know what you think, Thanks |

| o sorry, Umm I would like to sychronize me ram and cpu speeds, so Maybe i should just stay at 166. How is it doubtful about getting 400FSB sychronized? |

nothing to be sorry about...you asked a question..sometimes it's gonna be hard to explain it without sounding odd.
if you have found a site where someone has achieved what you are trying to do, with the same hardware you have...then help us help you by giving us a link.
as for the voltage...unless you made a change, it will auto detect your hardware and apply the appropriate amount.
the closer to stock CPU settings you keep, then the higher you can set the RAM..... |
