I just recently put together my new system with an XFX nVidia 6600- 256MB on PCI-Express for the video. Having run an old MX440 in my old system and not having much ability to overclock, this card blew me away

That's right- surprised the shat out of me. The memory could only squeeze out an extra 50MHz up from the 500MHz stock. The core on the other hand was able to do magic. I inched it up to 545MHz- 245MHz higher than the 300MHz stock setting. It amazed me how high it went. Worst part was, going up that much at 5Mhz increments with testing took forever. But I'm happy.

Here's some of the 3DMark #'s I've got:

Stock 300MHz core, 500MHz mem.
3DMark01SE - 13985
3DMark05 - 1734

OC'd 545MHz core, 550MHz mem.
3DMark01SE - 15126
3DMark05 - 2163

Other specs:
P4 550 3.4GHz LGA775
Intel 915PBX mobo 800MHz FSB
512MB dual channel Corsair ValueRAM 533MHz 4-4-4-12

Yo- the versions are listed beside the scores. Perhaps it was not obvious enough for you. Need to download Aquamark to give it a shot.

Its the regular 6600 man, its not the 6600GT. If i'm not mistaken, Sally will be getting that. We should be able to see what it does soon.

That is a monstrous overclock on the core! Too bad the ram couldn't go any higher because that thing would smoke with some better ram.

Yeah, it is just a plain old 6600. I haven't given up on the ram yet, but I don't think she'll go much higher.

As for an Aquamark score, I just downloaded and ran Aquamark3 and got 46,345 at default settings. I've never used this benchmark before, so I dunno what to think.

Actually I ended up getting a straight up 6600 and not the GT....partly due to a fuster-cluck in newegg's site and, of course, cost.

cool cool. 46k in aquamark beats out my 9700pro and 2.5ghz amd. i think the most i got was about 38k. Thats looking pretty darn good for your system.

Got it up a tad more- core at 560MHz and mem at 570MHz. This gave me a 3DMark01SE score of 15,326. Not a huge jump, but it's better.

Sweet OC there dude, Enjoy. Do you have the latest drivers installed? It may help up your scores a bit more if you haven't. Still tose scores are quite impressive, good job

Nice oc! Try uping the AGP core to 1.6v. Don't go any higher and watch those temps, you should hopefully see a little higher overclock!!!

Well, I'd bump up my PCI-Express voltage if I could, but my Intel board has no such ability. I'll keep tweaking this thing- maybe even get a new vga cooler when I find a good one that covers the ram too (these cards are nice- all ram on the front side, so no rear cooling to worry about). I plan on posting up some pics of my new rig in the case gallery when I get a chance. I took some of my build process, but they are loaded onto the computer back at home (I'm at college).

I just installed the latest drivers- however in doing so, I lost the abiltiy to adjust core and memory speeds. I think I will roll back to driver I was using originally. But thanks for the tip though.

Whooops! Dumbass alert (me)! Sorry, I was completely dumb for saying that! I read your thread and did notice that you were running PCIe and by the time I hit the Reply to thread button I forgot and went on to waffle about AGP.
Jeez, sorry about that and ignore it. I don't even know if you can up the voltage on PCIe at all - never used one.

Methinks better cooling won't get much more out of the ram. A voltmod or bios flash to raise the memory timings might. . . although you probably don't want to make that card a test dummy just yet. I say enjoy it as it is. Let us know if it plays halo any better or looks prettier.

Thanks Xal- editing my reg will be a lot quicker than reinstalling the card software- as the overclocking option is now gone even with the rolled back drivers. I think it has plateaued as far as oc'ing for the time being.

No problem
Try OCing again on the new drivers and give us your results

Got the latest nVidia drivers- seemed to help a bit. My oc'ing #'s didn't really change, but scores improved.

Core - 550
Mem - 550

3DMark01 - 15222

3DMark03 - 6310

3DMark05 - 2606

AquaMark03 - 47013

I think I am going to search for a better cooler for the video and it's memory. I turned all my case fans down to the lowest speed setting and saw scores drop as the heat built up. Worst one was the 3DMark01- it dropped down to 12500 ish. So better card cooling couldn't hurt.

Thought it might. Better cooling is always a good idea, even if it does not help your OCing its healthier for your componenents. If you have the $ then go for it
