No doubt, this is the fault of the shipper.

Heatsinks on with thermal grease?

I can guarantee you they were not on there until he put them on and shipped it.

This is a disgrace.

i know it sounds rude and whatnot... but I did this with my 9800pro, I bought it online, and didnt want to deal with the RMA and all the bs of waiting forever... so i went down to one of my (PC) stores paid 269.00 for a new ATI built one, replaced it with my faulty one (even swapped the serial numbers) and went back to return it saying my pc didnt have an AGP slot... I looked like an idiot, but i got a card that worked..

Publicly admitting that you have commited a fraud on an open forum is not a smart idea bro.

Nor is the fact that the actions you took were wrong.

Just wanted to make a comment....I came real close to buying this card only because I think highly of this site and the people that are members.
I would have never thought of and/or taken the time to inspect the card like Ham did...
What makes it worse...is the seller doesnt care about anything more than him receiving his money.
If I was his referral(oldmandingus), I would definitely reconsider having this seller use my name.

Nathan...just a suggestion. Would it be possible to have like a preferred seller/buyer forum header.

All of this is seriously going to make me cry. It's so touching.

The reason I don't care to explain myself is because of the extent this Dennis guy has gone to in order to make it look like everything is my fault. I just don't care about explaining in detail facts, such as the fact that the heatsinks stayed on the thing the whole time it was in my computer which has been toted around about a hundred thousand times, and the fact that the USPS apparently took a million years to deliver the package, and the fact that Western Union does actually need a shitload of info about the sender before you can claim the money, and the fact that a goddamn heatsink that weighs approximately 1 gram is not going to "knock a resistor and a capacitor clean off" the card. Since the heatsinks were on the front of the card, this implies that they fell off, circled around the back of the card, and rammed forcefully into the "broken" parts. If you have enough time to take pictures and upload them to show off to everybody here, then you have enough time to take the card and swap it out at a local retail store (which, even if the retail store found out, nobody is possibly ever going to care or call it fraud, that is just ridiculous - I have worked for 3 major computer part retailers). And stuffing a package with newspapers is not a bad way to ship something. I guess if you were stuffing the box with the rigid steel type of newspapers you imply I stuffed it with (btw I like how you bend the box out of proportion and fling newspapers everywhere when you took the pics) then something like some knocked off capacitors could happen.

USPS did NOT take forever to deliver, the postmark was Jan.4, 2005, and it was at my door on Jan. 8, 2005.
your money was delivered on Dec. 16, 2004!
I have dealt with W.U a lot.. All you need is your ID card, and the name and city of the sender, THAT"S ALL

the fact is...the product was DOA, whether it was defective before you shipped, or damaged in transit, due to shoddy packaging, is not my responsibility. IT IS YOURS.

Any respectable person would at least try to do the right thing, but I think we all know what kind of person you are, and I wish you good luck with your future transactions.

The original post say's "original packaging"....I think you are also slamming ATI for using newspaper
Likewise, no static bag has been discussed....I believe anyone shipping a vid board/ mobo / HDD or most any computer component without static protection is negligent.
I'll shut up now.

Are you kidding me? Are you that oblivious? You improperly packaged the product, the product was damaged in transport.

THIS IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!

I can't believe you attitude on this. You state that he should commit a fraud to cover up for your crap shipping job.

Oh, and BTW, the resistor looks to have been destroyed when some installed the cooler on it. AKA dead card before it entered the box.

You are a troll, a scammer, and you are criminally defrauding someone by not taking responsibility on this matter.

Your ass is kicked from Tweaknews, and so is you friend oldmandingus for this.

ok i am oldmandingus's brother and i would like to know why he is banned from TW. He had nothing to do with this transaction. He recently sold hampfist a pentium 4 2.8c and had no problems and sold it for a great price! Ask hamfist. He did nothing wrong, why is he taking some of the blame for something that has nothing to do with him.

oldmandingus was a reference for this transaction.

Does he know he was used for a reference? Check the initial post in this thread.

over ebay, when people get ripped off, the person who got ripped off cant blame the people who have left positive feedback about them...

this is not eBay, I trusted this dirtbag because he referenced your brother, but OMD is not to blame, he actually helped a little, forwarding emails to adrenaline, but he never should have let his name be used as a reference.
jusjt take a good look at who your friends are, someone who does something like this, and makes no effort to make it right...is even BRAGGING about it, (Thanks for the $150.00), is a piece of s***, and will do the same thing to his own Mother

Don't compare our community to that of ebay. We are a group of computer users that like to help each other out with advice, and maybe a good deal from time to time.

oldmandingus will be unbanned, but I need to talk to him over email about this.

He should really put his so called "friend" in line. I know if someone used my name as a reference without my knowledge and then pulled s-hit like this, we would be having a nice unfriendly encounter face to face somewhere.

Tell OMD to email me, or add me on one of his IM programs. All my info is on the team page.

Absolutely amazing.

He claims he stuck heatsinks on with thermal compound, and they stuck? Doesn't look like it to me, looks like they got stuck on just to make them look like they had been there.

That's totally improper packaging, by any stretch of the imagination. Newspaper + dry weather + cold in shipping = static electricity. Excellent.......great thinking.

Hammy is 100% correct, I've gotten money through WU many many times, and all that is needed on either end is name, address, and phone. The form is a half-page card that any moron can fill out in less than 5 minutes. Fact is, this guy is a half-assed schoolboy bully who won't 'fess up to his mistakes.

I do agree banning Oldmandingus is a bit extreme, he had no part in the transaction at all, beyond a recommendation. That'd be sorta like banning anyone who recommends Tiger Direct, just because they screwed me around on a $200 purchase (which they did).

WU does have some limited fraud protection, check with them to see if they can help with forms, originating times of money transfer, and so on. Not as good as PayPal, but their input can help in a fraud case. Unfortunately, used gear is typically "buyer beware", so not much can be done......

Hammy, if that fan will fit a 9600XT, I'll buy it from you. I need a new one........
