Why would anyone go backward and buy a non DX 10 compatible video card? |

It all depends on your needs I guess. A number of people still believe that buying a directX 10 card now is jumping the gun. They say that by the time DX10 is properly utilized in games current DX10 cards will be too slow anyway. I don't agree but hey, its up to the individual. There is also a fair sized market for people buying a second card to go SLI. Honestly though I think prices on DX9 cards are still very steep for what they are, outdated. _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock

How many true DX10 games are on the market? Not enough to buy a card on that sole characteristic. _________________ Owner & Administrator

That's true Nathan, but I can tell you from experience, it DOES make a difference with the high end Vista with "DreamScene" running. |

True, but anyone knows that if they don't want a slower and buggy computer that they stick to Windows XP anyways. _________________ Owner & Administrator

Haha, Nate is right, even games touting DX10 atm are at best DX9 games with a few hacks to add some DX10 features at the last minute. It will be at least a year before any REAL DX10 games hit the stores. So, anyone running an older system and wanting a transcient upgrade will likely be looking at cards like this. Vista still has some serious compatibility issues and even with games coming out "only on vista" people are still hacking them to work on XP so there is obviously nothing in these games that XP can't handle. That will change in time but not in a hurry.
This is a good card and will run most games for at least a year (likely more). Even DX10 games will have DX9 backward compatability so those who have forked out for 7X00 series Nvidia cards recently can breathe easy. I have a DX10 card and in all honesty the performance hit on DX10 is not worth the extra eye candy. When native DX10 titles come out with FULL DX10 support that will change (performance should be a lot better). But like I said, not going to happen soon. _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock
