|
|
I have a koolance case with liquid cooling systems for my HD and CPU. I generally like it a lot, but I've got the urge to build something or at least mod it a bit. So what should I do? Build a case? Mess with the one I've got? I'm definately gonna get some cable sleeves, round IDE and Floppy cables, and a UV light. What else should I do to my case, or should I try building one from scratch? It sounds ambitious but fun. I have access to a table saw, band saw, jig saw, drill press, and hand drills.
So what do you guys reccomend? Some pics of my current case are at www.thebeckerfamily.org/jacob.htm . Keep in mind that I will be adding UV sensitive round cables and cable sleeves as well as a blue UV light. |

Well, seeing as how you have watercooling, a blowhole might be out of the picture, but its a good way to wet your beak in modding. you COULD give a window mod a try, although those tend to be a little more risky. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

| Um... what's a blowhole, exactly? Is it those holes in teh window with a fan in them? A window mod sounds interesting, what do you have in mind? |

um, i think that he was talking about putting a window in.. i dont think he realized that u already have one. I would do something with your keyboard, like put in backlight cold cathodes. Scroll through the mod guide list here, and see if you like anything. http://www.tweaknews.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3341
You dont really need a blowhole since you have water cooling, they are kinda for air cooling but i guess it couldnt really hurt. warm air rises so u cut a hole in the top of the case, and put a fan there that blows out to expediate the process of warm air rising out of the case. There are lots of ways to do that, the guides are in that link. |

Yeah.. Wire management is what you need. Take a look at the wires in this machine:

Notice how you can't see any? That always is a fun project. _________________ "....Or as almost every word in a sentence; Tweak the tweaking tweakers!"

On the top part of that case, does that house the radiator(s)? Is the air pulled from the case? If so, that'd be pretty much a blowhole. I didn't realize the fans were up there already. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

There is a radiator at the top with two fans pulling air in over it and one pushing air out. So I guess another blowhole would be unneccessary, but thanks for explaining what one is!
As for the wires, I'm definately planning to sleeve them. I think I'm going to use Uv-reactive blue sleeves from Xoxide.com. I'm looking for something I can do to that case that would require a bit more serious tweaking. I dunno why, I've just got that urge... |

| Oh, and a backlit keyboard! That would be awesome! Maybe I should get a more ergonomic keyboard first, the one I'm using now is pretty standard and wouldn't have much room for a light most likely... |

how about a nice window etch? if you're handy with a Dremmel, they look Awesome.
you can embed some LED's in the side of an etched window, and it will literally come to life
if you want some medium to advanced mod techniques, my second favorite forum is Bit-Tech >> http://forums.bit-tech.net/index.php? <<
look through some of the "Project Logs" there, some Amazing work that should give you some Ideas _________________ Yeah....... ok |

Thanks guys! I have loads of ideas. I think the extra fans come first, though. The hard drive mod on linear's site looks awesome. But dangerous. I'll probably want to try it on a real cheap hd if I can find one.
Then maybe I'll put a window in my optical drives, dye the front of my optical drives black....
Eventually though, I really want to build a plexiglass case. But that's a ways off, I wouldn't know where to begin.... |
