I have to get 4 new tires for my '02 tacoma (205/75 15) and was wondering what were some good brands to go with. I'm thinking of getting some Michelin's of the same size, cause the OEM tires were Firestone Wilderness HT's. I don't know what kind of "wilderness" they were thinking about, but it must have been paved, cause these things don't get very good traction.
I was also quoted $95/tire. The guy said he had too many in stock and had to get rid of them so he'de give me a good price. Never heard that line before.
What do you guys like? |

you crack me up.....
I've always had good luck with michelins myself...Blows them firestones away...[I've never liked Firestones]
Of course I don't know what kind of "wilderness" they were designed for either...maybe the wild side of town. _________________ .

| Mostly commuting on the highway actually. It's not a 4x4, so I don't need anything too crazy, hence the 15's. |

Well, if you are livin on the paved wilderness, you may do best with some kind of meaty LT tire or something. Another important question is how do you drive? Often? Casually? Are you a badass? Personally, I run through about 4 tires a year....between my right foot and my frequency of travel, they get replaced before winter every year. If you are using them rather disposably I wouldn't bother paying for the micheline name. They aren't neccessarily that much higher quality of a tire, rather just more expensive. I'm not saying that you should go with the house brand or anything like that, but consider options from Yokohama, Toyo, Bridgestone/Firestone, Dayton, Cooper, Ohtsu, and others. _________________ |¤

Don'tl leave out the Dunlop... Now granted I am talking from experience with car tires as opposed to truck tires, but my SP9000's do me great. I would have to say the best wet traction experience I've ever had with a tire. A++ in my book. But I am pretty sre they do not offer that model in a truck tire. Though they have a wide range of selection, and I am sure you could find something for the yota. _________________ "....Or as almost every word in a sentence; Tweak the tweaking tweakers!"

Sally...them Mickies aren't really any more expensive than some of the brands you named. AND...he's getting them on some kind of deal, so I see nothing at all wrong with it. _________________ .

hey, A deal is a deal ( I mean look at me, I'm building an INTEL system!)
I am just saying not to treat one brand as the holy grail....
Also ZF, thanks, Continental is another I didn't mention! _________________ |¤

I eventually went to Sears and got Goodyear Weathersomethings. They were only fifty bucks. They got decent reviews and since I drive most of my miles on I-40 in Nat Calina, they'll probably be fine.
And with the extra money I saved I was able to afford HL2! |
