More or less......

Hope this is the right place to put this, if not, please move it for me.

After thinking about it for awhile, I've decided to start building custom systems. I figured, what the heck.....got the experience, might as well take the plunge. I've already "tied the knot" with a distributor for parts, so I can get pretty much anything, at the same time as the bigger companies like Alienware and such. Meaning, a little ahead of the typical retail chain.

The idea is to build high-end gaming systems, music production systems, and so on, but I can do smaller stuff as well.

What I plan on offering:
Systems built to your specs, or better. Sorta like VooDoo.....you tell me you want the best gaming machine available, and I know a new card is coming out in two weeks, you might have to wait. Get your money's worth, you know?

Multiple case options, including custom painted cases, with automotive quality finishes. Expensive, but doable.

Since my distributor also happens to be a pro in the business, all parts will be "bootstrapped" before they even get shipped to me......meaning, a basic assembly will be done, and all parts tested for stability, closest tolerances in RAM, etc, before it even gets shipped to me. Once I get it, then the custom work begins.

I will be offering a 1-year support agreement, with all higher-end systems. This will include warranty replacement, free labor on parts upgrades, the usual. Shipping will be your responsibility, at least getting it to me. Limited tech support will be available, on a case-by-case basis.

Beyond that, I'm just at the starting stages. "Grand Opening" will be in 6-8 weeks, give or take, once everything falls into place. Working on a website as we speak, but it won't go live for a few weeks, at least, until I know for sure on pricing. Figure it's gonna be competitive with other custom companies, depending on your options. Full-bore top of the line with a custom paint job around $6500, depending on the paint wanted, less for solid colors, more for detailed graphics. I won't be doing that work, I have a friend who runs a custom car shop that will do the work for me, and he's gooooooood.

Hopefully this works.......got alot of paperwork to do. More headaches......yay.

I forgot about you........heh.

I'm going more local, seems that there's nobody in this part of the NE that knows squat about gaming systems, and parts are just about impossible to get. It's gonna take some time to work out, but it'll be a fun process. If it branches out to a more national thing, cool.

hey fuss, i wanted to ask you. You dont need to research but i was wondering incase you ever find out. Is it possible to just call yourself a .com company, and save a little money on taxes? jc if you know. Could be a big advantage to both of us.

Nah, not if you actually want a distributor to speak with you. You have to have all the appropriate business stuff, tax ID, license, all that stuff. It's not expensive, really, depending on where you are. In CT it's only $20 for a business license, and if you do out-of-state stuff, you don't have to collect sales tax.

You *can* do it without a license, and all that, but you'll pretty much have to buy parts off the shelf, and you'll be taking a chance that if something doesn't work, you won't be able to cover any warranty stuff.......nothing worse than having a customer come back to you with a problem, and you have to tell them "sorry, bro, I just build them. You'll have to deal with so and so tech support for warranty work". Consider yourself closed at that point.......your rep will go downhill so fast its not funny.

Now, that's not to say you have to report everything, of course........if somebody pays you cash, you get the parts cash, and there's no paper trail........it's pretty much expected that at least 20% of your profits will go unreported. Being a regular business also protects you in case of loss......if you do it "under the table", and somebody stiffs you for a machine, you can't write it off on your taxes, and you're screwed.
