Sooooo... I got 2 LED fans in my system lighting up the computer already.

I recently bought a cold cathode light, thinking that everything would turn out even cooler! Well, I put it in and there was almost no change to the case!

Do you need total darkness to see the cold cathode light?

If you can't see the lights something probably isn't working. Do you see any lights at all?

I do see the effects of the light when I shine the light on my carpet and it brings out all the little white pieces of dust.
I think this is one of those ultra violet lights.

hmm... maybe the light is defective then.
But black light only appears when everything's dark, right?

most of my case is dark, though... soo... I don't see the problem.

if its a black light, it wont light up as much as a cold cathode light but you should still be able to see the light easily, if you hold it up outside of the case, it should light up everything thats white in the entire room, you shouldnt have to hold it close to the carpet. maybe its defective, or not getting enough power (ie. did you daisy chain your power cables?)

daisy chain my power cables?...
I used rubber bands to tie them up (there's still quite a bit of a mess in my case... heh)

daisy chaining means you plug one fan into a molex connector, then another, then another, then another, then another etc.. all on the same rail.

then whatcha can try to make sure that its not a bad blacklight is, put it on its on rail and if its bright as it should be, get a fan controller to connect all your fans, this will clean up alot of the wires, and free up a rail or two.

well, I cleaned up my case by pushing all the wires behind the motherboard (tight fit).

Anyways, I tried it on it's own line and it still had the same effect.
Is it supposed to be super bright? cuz I'm getting sorta a dim whitening effect.
probably gonna return it anyways.

put a piece of white paper in the case and see if that lights up with the UV, you may just have a good UV light in which case you just need to put a whole lot of uvreactive junk in your case

I think that's the case.
But still, it's only a portion of my case that's lighted. The rest of it is dark. This light is supposed to be on the border of blinding when you look directly at the cathode, right?

No, even when a black light is working properly it wont blind you. If you turn a black light on in a completely dark room you should see a slight glow from the black light and anything that is white or reacts to ultraviolet light will glow. If you dont have anything that is reactive in your case you wont get much effect from that CC.

You get the best effect from UV ccfl's when there is very little other light inside your case, but there is a lot of UV reactive stuff, such as UV reactive Cable Sleeving, and Molex Connectors.

Also UV reactive Clear paint is cool to dot the tops of capacitors and things like that, they will really glow if there isn't much other light

the Best UV CCFL's put out very little visible light.
