Yes, yes, I know it's sickeningly high...but riddle me this...
I know Athlon processors can run hot (50-55C) before damage...So my question is -- is that socket temp? I'm hoping it's not diode temp, cause if so, I'm screwed, no?
My cooling is garbage until I get my new case, so I'm just checking to make sure my comp is safe. I'm not having any problems with overheating or shutting down or anything, and ATM my house is at it's pretty much average temp (70-75 F or so).

I had some problems w/ my stupid AMD hsf that came w/ my 1700+ last year and I was into the mid 60's with my processor, yet she kept running strong and still runs today. I'd say get some serious attention on that thing.
What hsf do you have?
What kind of thermal paste?
HOW MUCH OF IT? _________________ |¤

Volcano 9+
Arctic Silver 5
'just a dab' (aka enough )
...I know, "apparently not enough cause of high temps" but I blame that on the case/atmospere, not the HSF or grease _________________

yeah, acutally less is more with the AS5
I also have a volcano....good stuff. Are you using the thermostatic fan adjustor or are you running balls to the walls? Your environment for sure doesn't help but damn that's warm. Because your case is only @ 43 I think that there is something else SERIOUSLY wrong _________________ |¤

I left it running on auto, so it 'should be' blowing full force. I would take my case out to check, but it's too much of a hassle for right now...plus I have a band festival in the morning, so i need some sleep, heh
Actually, come to think of it, I was thinking that the HSF may not be seated properly, but I'm about 98% sure that it is. ANYWAY, as I was thinking that, it brought me to this...in my case (WAY too small) my HSF/cpu are roughly, oh, 1/4-1/2 in. from the PSU...which I'm imagining could radiate some pretty nice heat directly onto them.
You think that could be causing it? _________________

Its very possible that your mobo is just reading the wrong temp. CAREFULLY feel the processor heatsink. Describe how warm or hot it feels.
Sally is right, AMD's can take a beating on those temps. IT WILL shorten the lifespan of the processor when the temp rises, but you shouldn't have a whole lot to be concerned about until you hit 57-62C. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

You guys never answered one of my original questions
Should I be looking at the diode or socket temp? _________________

many socket A boards have it in that proximity. For example I have to take out my PSU to get my heat sink and/or processor out.
I would definitely check on that heat sink to be sure it is properly seated. If you do have the thermostat installed, make sure it is betweenthe board and the CPU and that the thermal tape was used. Also, plug in the speed sensor for your CPU fan (that'd be the yellow one). I noticed in the screen shot that no speeds are listed. _________________ |¤

Whoops, sorry. The two should be very similar. i'm not sure why they are so far off.
Am i seeing temps in the 60C+ range? I would have to say to go with the higher of the two temps just to be on the safe side.
How does the heatsink feel? CAREFUL!
You have a volcano 9 right now? How well did you clean the heatsink and processor core when you put the AS on? What did you use?
Maybe we can get those temps down for you. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

srry, took me too long to write that i missed half the thread!
The SOCKET is the board sensor just below CPU (underneith it). That's actually the ONLY reading that my software gives me and I am actually running the same temp as you are.
In my bios, however, I can also view the CORE temp (same as your DIODE) and its usually about where yours is too come to think of it.
Clearly I need to read better... _________________ |¤

Wow, i can't believe I didn't see this earlier - your case temp is WAY too high. What kind of case cooling do you have? you definately need at least one fan blowing in and one sucking air out (not the psu fan) A blowhole would also be a good idea. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

yeah, that case temp is insane, tidy your wires as best you can and maybe add a few fans, if your case is too small then its deffinately time for a new one. with case temps that high I would say take off the sidepannel as it is just keeping the heat in.
GET A NEW CASE SOON, it will be well worth the $$. _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock

| Are you planning on using the same psu? if you are i would consider a new one. Maybe one that has some larger 120mm fans 2 or 3 would do. You would be amazed on how much this can help with cooling. |

I'm begining to worry about you Sally, you do know its a floppy DISK drive don't you... J/K
Looks good dude, that case and PSU should drop your temps nicely _________________ Phenom II x4 955 @ Stock

isnt the 2200+ a T-bred? Doesnt that series of cpu's run hot anyways. I remember that there was a big stink about them bacause at first there was only the socket temp readings (which didnt actually give you real cpu temps) and then when the included the diode readings everyone thought that their cpu's were going to burn. That is about the time that AMD started using the SOI process to be able to reduce leakage and there by reduced heat with their next cpu's. _________________ I tweaked and it tweaked back! It depends if its a Tbred A or B. If i am not mistaken, the Tbred A's had a .18micron process and they ran very hot towards the end of their series. If its a Tbred B, then it should be a .13micron process and should run much cooler than that.
I would download cpu-z and see what that says about the processor. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

Way ahead of you on CPU-Z...anyway, it says I have a T-bred, .13micron.
