well i'm going to take the plunge and get extreme cooling
looking into watercooling for my hd's, videocard, and northbridge, and vapochill for my cpu. Going to try to shove all that in a lian-li v1000.
so far i have zip nadda nothing... lol, but i'm saving up, should have enough for it in a month or three... 300 for case, about 200-300 for the water, and about 1100 or so for the vapochill... worst case scenario, the cpu will be watered for a month or two. ideally i'ld like the vapo first so i can see if it will work with the case or not(i've got the v1100 so i could use that to see), but that's the biggest item, and i'ld rather start small

if you are going with a Lian-Li case why not go with the PC-65 which the vaporchill LS is designed for. I think that would make a good looking combo.

and
http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/cas-194.html

I think that I might build one in a few months for my EE and just use it for a gaming machine!!

One word of advice on watercooling the HDDs. DONT use the pink putty stuff that goes between the hdd and waterblock that Koolance provides. As there is a chance that it can kill the HDD (R.I.P. 36 gig raptor). I think that there are others out there that just uses a mat that will transfer heat to the waterblock. But it looks as though the best way to cool the HDD is to use the blocks that mount on the side of the drive versus the "plate" models. But in order to use these you would have to mount them in a 5 1/4" bay. But if it gives you better performance its worth it.

On a side note if you are wanting to use extreme and water cooling make sure you pay some heed to the power circuitry too. As these parts are normally cooled by the airflow off of the various fans. The memory also could use a little cooling too. For these I use a few 40mm and 60mm fans running at low speeds to keep these items cool.

Great advice. Just because you are watercooling most of your system, you will still want a small amount of air to flow over the motherboard and cool the rest of the components.

well the water bits been ordered... now i just have to save up for the vapochill...
1 x Blackice Radiator
1 x Hydor L20 Pump which i might change later for a Swiftech pump
1 x Asetek Waterchill reservoir
1 x VGA cooling block (from asetek)
1 x Northbridge cooling block (from asetek)
also going to get the hd block.... the one for the 5.25 bay, might have to remove the hd section for the water, or for the vapo.

one thing i haven't got yet is the tubing... do i have to use the asetek tubing, or can i just get whatever (of course something of good quality)

Once i get it all in, i'll see how it fits in my v1100, and order my new case accordingly....

as for airflow, that won't be much of an issue, i'll still have either an intake fan or an exaust fan (depending on where i put the rad.

If you are interested in adding a ducting for the the radiator, I'm planning on a little "How to" within the next week or two. VERY simple to make and should have no airflow restrictions, hard wearing and can be made to fit exactly how you want. Best part is it's CHEAP
A duct will ensure tha he radiator get a constant smooth stream of air, rather than the smaller area with high speed turbulent air from he fan mounted too close to the rad, which does not help fully cool the rad at all well.

^^Can't wait to see! You'll have to tell us if it makes a difference in the sound level.

for tubing I would suggest tygon. I have used the other cheap stuff that you can get at Home Depot and it doesnt bend as well. Also get the coil stuff from swiftech for around the tubing as this will help with the bending without kinking. And remember use only distilled water not tap water.

as for tubing, i was looking at the tygon actually, and yeah i know bout the distilled water, in theory (and often in practice as well) it does not conduct electricity.
as far as a difference in sound level... anything will make a difference, it's running right now with a 120 in front, two 80mm tornado's in the back as exaust, an 80mm tornado on the side as intake, and the cpu cooler is a silent tower with 92mm tornados on either side. To top it all, i have a giant 3 heatsink on my 9800pro, and the little turbine makes more noise than anything else in the system. only quiet thing in the system is my 17db thermaltake powersupply.

runs nice and cool though, 29C for the board, 33C for the AMD64 3400+(stock 2.4) idle and 36 load... it's and abit board so it usually reads high

Looks darn good right now. Are you going for some extrmeme overclocking? Or is that a dumb question =P

I can't wait to see how it will do!

You should build a hover craft with all of those extra tornado's you'll have....

decided to post some before and after, and maybe some of the in progress pics.

here is the before ones

the wiring is awful, there is wool holding up the heatsink (otherwise it slides off the cpu and i never got around to finish painting the side panel, or installing the fan and plexiglass.
Not really going to work on it much till i get my new case and cooling...

Wow. That's pretty hardcore....

BTW, I was serious about the hovercraft..

...or an electric supercharger for your car....or a vacuum cleaner with unheard of power....

That case would look pretty damn good with plexiglass and CCFL's.

A leaf blower mod!
