Did you do a "quick format" or whatever the xp install disk calls it? I'm afraid the data may all be lost, but you may be able to recover some of it, but it won't be easy or cheap. Maybe someone else here has some other ideas (I hope) but I'm pretty sure that the data on sectors that now contain the OS is surely unrecoverable.
I wish you the best of luck! |

| yes there is a way even if you did a super clean reformat i know cause i know someone that did it but he moved so i need someone to help me do this but when i did the reformat it was the quick version though so i think its easier to recover |

| yes thats true but only very small fragments of the what you lost. basically you could find info on what was on the drive but nothing more. |

Sorry to say, but all is pretty much lost =( . even if you did a quick format, it would be nearly impossible to recover any information. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

Erm, guys! Does anyone here remember a little MS DOS utility called "Un-delete"? Yes you can recover data from the HDD, when you delete or even full format a disk, all the disk is doing is to delete the FIRST character of the file name. The file then becomes null to the operating / file system system.
Data recovery is ONLY possible if you have NOT overwritten any part of the file.
As you have done a clean reinstall of XP, it is likely that most of the data will be corrupted by the XP files written over the top of fragments of the original data. You *might* still be able to recover some of the data, but this will depend on how fragmented the drive originally was and how much data has been written to the disk since the format.
Google for "undelete" or "file recovery"
Try this site, it has a demo which may help out:
http://www.active-undelete.com/
The more you use your computer and the more thing that you install, all result in LESS data to recover.
Good luck!
