Well I think it's time to format my comp, win ME just took a dump!
Its been sick for a while now, today it just croaked "Rose bud...." and died, or it may have been "Hose crud" not sure on that one.

I can't open anything, not even "My Computer" on the desktop (restarted and tried a system restore / reinstall) All I get are BSODS and error messages, this thing is screwed.

All I can do is connect to the internet (I'm typing this on it now), and even that is acting up (keeps showing the forum as it was this morning, gota keep refreshing it). What a pice of F{expletive deleted}T!

Now then, what should I install? HMMM, I have win2K or XP pro?
Not sure about XP being able to run some of the older hardware I got in here though.
Amd 2200+ xp
Abit K(?) 333 mobo (lost disk with drivers)
512Mb RAM (two sticks 256)
60Gig IBM drive
SCSI card (cheap generic, have drivers)
SCSI 12speed CDROM (got it and the card for free)
Plextor CD/RW
Gforce 3 Ti 200 (still a good card )
Onboard sound (lost the MB disk so I'll have to D/L the drivers)

Prob b 2K 'cos I got the disk in front of me

I only installed ME 'cos the disk was infront of me too.

Just glad I got the important stuff off the drive first (MP3 etc)

Sorry Nate, I posted to chit chat as it was more of a statement than a question.
My bad.

So far the only MS OS I consider to be stable is NT4 (final build, SP6). Unfortuantely you can't use it for games (almost no support for Direct X) and it's just not up to the job anymore.
Win 2K is an OS I'm happy to use though, no big problems with it as yet. Not convinced by XP yet, used it before, found it to be bulky and dificult to get setup just right (what did MS do the NT core in this?).

I will probably install 2K on my machine as I need an OS with good memory use and good stability (My machines are number crunchers on distributed projects for my team OCN / Pirate fleet).

I'd say go for XP but you should prolly install one and then the other. Try each one for a short "test" period and see which one is best for you.

XP...I know it's bloatware, but go to old tweakhound, kick some of the consumer cr4p out of it, and it does okay. It's more usable, the more familiar you get with it. It does have the ability to quite memory hungry though.
