|
|
I have been recently reading some reviews on ram and memory. I found that on most of them, especially the KT400's, PC2700 was the fastest. Why is that? My conclusion is that the only point of the higher speeds, for instance PC3500 is to set it at the optimal speed, which right now is PC2700, and then later on, when the motherboards can take more advantage of the higher speeds, the higher speed ram comes in handy, is that right?
Thanks, this is the best all around forum that I've ever been on. |

***for the most part...the VIA chipset has been around the longest and has naturally been reviewed more.
Try doing a search specifically on other types like the nForce2...you may a see some interesting results. Not so much on being able to make the processor perform better, the the system as a whole!

***again you are going to find some differences between the chipset makers...
nForce2 people are going to be quoting support for the 3500 or even 3700 DDR.
To my knowledge though at this time the highest 'officially' JEDEC recognized modules are the PC3200 DDR. So there may be some boards that will support certain DIMMs and others that will not, when you use DIMMs above 3200.
Bios updates are always making it easier to support better RAM...
Essentially, I think you have the idea
But you need to read and compare the board you like against what DIMMs it will support 'officially' against what other people have been able to achieve and what you intend to do with it.
Sometimes spending the most isn't always the best idea! |

thanks DMW, I finally found I site that had the benchmarks of the Nforce 2, along with the speed of memory they used. It showed that PC2700 was A little bit faster then the PC3200 on all the tests. So I will be getting an nforce 2, I was already planning on it, but What speed of memory should I get, PC3200, or PC2700. The only point of getting the PC3200 would be for later times when motherboards can actually handle the memory right??
Thanks a lot for your help! |

remember that not all nForce boards are created equal....
and that those which use inferior parts are not going to show any gains with better modules...
EVERYTHING has a 'budget' version....
Asus/Leadtek/MSI are among the best nForce2 boards out there.... |

Ok, all nforce 2 motherboards are like that including the brands you just mentioned. My only question is: The fastest speed that the "current" motherboards can take advantage of is PC2700. I mean it has to be that, in all the test, even the good brands sucked using PC3200 and higher.
Thanks for your help! |

Thanks for all your help, and in-depth responses. To save you some time, you could just say yes or no, but if you insist on giving me a lot of information, I will apriciate it.
Thanks |
