It is interesting indeed - here is a similar article: Radeon 9500 to 9700 Mod by DesignTechnica. The improvement you get is substantial and the money you save is definitely worth it: roughly US $160!

I'd have to say this is better than any other graphx card mod ever done...I have to agree with Peer tho - be careful and add extra cooling. As with any mod/OC there's more heat, so quality ramsinks, HSF, and thermal grease is definitely recommended!

Seems you can't find anymore Radeon 9500's with original BIOS. ATi has done a thorough job of making sure the numbers dwindle considerably.

Oh well, nice hack...but can't be done anymore.
