ok I got bit in the rear again by having 4xAA and 8xAF forced in the nVidia control panel. with these now set to application control and the perf/quality slider set to performance. I get 60.812 average with a low of 30 and a high of 158 running the timedemo at 1024x768 at high detail.

have you done any doom 3 tweaks? my friend is running on a 5200 and he says it runs perfectly for him, ill ask him what tweaks he did and get back to you.[/quote]

No tweaks done yet. Until now I had not had my video card OCed. I think now that I have run into this problem I am going to do just that. If anyone knows a good link to a thread that might help me along with that, I would greatly appreciate it.

it is also not recommended to OC your vid card as it can cause problems with Doom3. In some cases it has killed the OC'ed car. May AlGore's 5600 R.I.P.

Yes, a few tweaks and short cuts should get you running better.

my EVGA 6800 OC'ed to 380 - 790 runs doom GREAT in high quality,i dont have enough ram to run it in highest because highest quality takes 500mb of ram.

my evga 6800 OC'ed to 380,790 maxes fps out(60) almost all the time on high quality.I would run it in ultra high but i only have 512 ram and ultra high uses 500mb's....

Give everyone an update here.....

FTR if you are reading this... I remember you posting somewhere (that I am way too lazy and wasted to find) that you were having the same problem I was, so check this out.

My friend Glenn was over and we were stumped as to why the game was so choppy. Then finally after doing a bunch of random things, he just made, what seemed to be an assumed statement, about updated drivers. Then I realized I have not updated my drivers for about..... oh...... I want to say 7 months. So after DLing the new divers I put the game back on and its running awesome. So I bumped it all up and I am now at 800x600 with full quality and EVERY advanced option on, and still running like a dream.

So... I am a big moron basically... =]

Yay i have the game!

I know i mentioned it in the other doom thread but i am so excited, this is the best game i have played!

I run it on High detail 1024*768 and it runs nice and smooth, no probs!

Yes we should try and finally make a team out of this game! I had such a small response when trying to do it before (when i was trying to email ppl and make sure they were ok, but i only got postive responses from the main guys, and to be honest, 5 or less to a team aint worth doing!

Frnchy, you up for some online doom later today? We can do i direct IP and you can be the host with your damn cable!

I managed to sqeeze out a few more fps but not enough to change the quality. I am rather happy with the way its behaving now.

I have played it for bout 4 hours now and from what i have experienced so far, i find that far cry is more demanding on my PC, dunno why as specs for doom are higher, but doom definately runs alot faster than Far cry on high...anyone else experience this?

yup, i dunno if its because its a cooler day today, but my CPU has been cooler too than in Far Cry, it never went over 46C, in far cry mak would be about 50C ish @ 2.16GHz

I am 99.999% sure that your ram is holding you back on Far Cry, Josh. 1gb of pc3200 seems to be the minimum for smooth gameplay on that game.

I would probably get 1 stick of pc3200 and add another when you get the money. Of course they need to be identical.

I am either goin to get one stick of my current RAM and cheaply upgrade to 1GB pc 2700, or, i will get 1 stick of Crucial Balistix 512mb pc3200, then get another one at a later date when i have a job and money and have some schweeeeet RAM...what you guys think, dont forget, im goin to want to buy a 6800 GT sometime and im not covered in money
