Ray is just short for Racing. It only makes more sense to spell it that way.

So you have LED's inside the roms? So you only see them when it opens up? I gotta try that!

I saw a mod to put a window in ur cd drive... only when u install the cd drive, u cant see the freaking top...c ause its against the case/ another cd drive, i know some cases are see through, but very few aer all see through... what was the dude thinking.?

well with an acrylic case and the top drive it would be cool.......and with a CD in....you wouldnt be hit by to much laser......

but to fix this.......insert one of those clear spacers you get when you buy a spindle of blank discs........stand directly above your newly modded CD rom drive......close door..........stare wide-eyed at the window........

post here what happens.....

Well I just tried it, could'nt see anything, mind you I STILL can't see anything......

As long as you dont expose the area directly above the laser then it would be ok. There are HIFI CD players that are cut away round the disk, only the mechanism and laser are shielded from sight.

Hmm now there's an idea for a mod. cut away all the case around the disk, disable the tray motor (no need to eject anymore) and attach the drive to the side of your case, use those little clips on the tray that hold the disk in when mounted sideways to keep the disk in position. to use, just drop the CD in the top and hit the close button, the disk will be grabbed and held by the drive assembly and work as normal yet spinning in full view. if done just right it could look quite good. maybe a bright light source in the bottom? it would look just right on a case with a "techno" or "borg" style to it.

Not sure how well the CDs would fair up to this though and the disk could be spinning up to 50 times that of a CD player, would'nt wanna touch it!! not sure about the drive mechanics either, might be using the tray mech to engage the drive motor onto the disk.

What about reflection though.......i would imagine the section of case that was underneath that drive (or whatever was underneath it....prolly more cd drive) would cause some sort of reflections that may cause misread data.........maybe external light would be an issue all together......only being able to use your CD at night would not be too beneficial......=]

Light could be an issue, though I'm not sure, I'd have to check the spec sheets for the laser pic-up. nearly all CD drives have a load of drive electronics right up to the front pannel, so reflection wont be an issue there. The disk is so close to the laser that there should be little laser radiation escaping sideways.
main concern would be to keep the VERY fast spinning disk away from idots and the fingers <CHOP>

That may be why we have'nt seen this mod anywhere, because no fingers were left to push the button on the camera

hhmmmmm what would it take to color a motherboard as well?? the reason I think of this is, that in that case it would be a shame to install this shiny piece of PCB it needs to be muted too. the fans are begging to be done too.

that is some sort of barbie vehicle from my niece visiting the blue Barbie mustang is painted and in a case... hehehe

i am proud... except for the fact that i ruined my PSU... lol it wouldnt start anything. I retried the ATX connector on several motherboards and NOTHING. I got a tester havent tried it yet. But i have a new PSU on the way. a 500w to power everything. Hope it rocks like the Antec.

Take your multimeter and test the psu fuse for resistance. If it reads 0 that is bad. If it reads anything else, thats good!

ok i found the fust and while trying to take it out i broke the glass insulator... now i know on car buss fuses the glass is clear now on this one its white... is that normal? or does this one have a bad fuse
i cant find my multimeter rightnow... so i cant check the resistance... but doh well... ill have a new one by tuesday with my mobo
