Java installs but doesnt work

i have installed Java on my computer and it hasnt show up on my computer, the enable java option didnt even show up in the advanced options.
i have tryed downloading it from the java site, i downloaded the auto way and it didnt work and then i tryed downloading the java installation pack and that didnt work.
So i have no idea, if anyone can help that would be great...

First of all, is this Sun Microsystem's Java or Microsoft's VM?

Secondly, see if it's installed by going to a webpage that uses Java. If java displays that means it works.
