If you use a PS/2 mouse the following tweak will give you smoother mouse movement, which is also great for gaming.

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware tab -> Device Manager and scroll to your mouse device. Right-click and select Properties.

Under Advanced Setting set the sample rate to 200.
