|

Sometimes when I boot my Win2000 rig, Windows goes into a scandisk (or checkdisk?) routine with the message "Volume is dirty".
It never hifhlights anything as "repaired" and runs OK afterwards, but I know this is trouble.
I'm getting ready to do a fresh install of Win2000 over the weekend unless someone can direct me to a tool for a repair.
I have run various HD and registry clean/repair utilities (HD Cleaner, RegScrub XP, Norton One Button Checkup), but to no avail.
Any hope out there guys??
Thanks,
Hose |

| If porn is the problem, then I guess I'm just Hosed.... I'm sure ALL of my volumes are "dirty". |

Follow Up...
I opted for the fresh install. However, I unknowingly picked up a virus in the process. When I finally got around to installing the AV program and found the virus, it then made sense that "things weren't quite going together smoothly".

|
|
I was doing a fresh install of Win2000 last night, and I kept getting popups from Windows Messenger. At one point, the popup even said, "You've got a virus!. Go to such-and-such website and we'll help you get rid of it". (The install was ratty... had to do the video drivers a 3rd time. Other things didn't work just right either... thought I'd have to redo the install from scratch. When I finally got around to installing the AntiVirus program and cleaned out the virus, it appears to all be working well now.)
Considering I hadn't been online with anybody except Dell for a driver and MS for updates, I got the feeling the sender of that message also fouled my system. Pretty neat, eh? Send you a virus to hose your rig, then tell you, "for a fee, we'll tell you how to unhose it". What a crock!
So, my suggestion.... If you're doing a fresh install, make it a point to disable Windows Messenger Service before you first go online. |
