i thought about that, but this is not a program, it just a text file. you replace another windows file with it. The text file you download is called hosts.txt

as its a text file you can open it and read its contents before you install it.
i looked at the text, nothing suspicious, just a list of ad servers to block. However, im no programmer. perhaps one of you pros could read the text and check it out.

the website explains how it works. also, everytime you find the name of a new ad server you can add it to the text file and reinstall it, thereby blocking that ad server forever.

ive think its a great find, its blocking all the ads from the adservers listed in the file. but once again, one of you pros read the text file and check it out.

the google toolbar is prolly the best free pop-up blocker for IE there is. its easy to install not big at all and its not ad-awar or spyware and its compltely free. I use it and it blockes lost of annoying pop-ups and if ou need to let a pop-up through you jsut press the ctrl key when you click on the link.

Also make sure you turn off pageranking.

If you don't you are sending information to google.

This program blocks ads in the IE window you are viewing, not the pop up ads.
it blocks those banner ads across the top, bottom and sides of the window

ive been usng for a while now, it works great.
no adware noticed.

i think this text file is too small to contain adware, its 36K. but open the text file and check it out before you install it.

you can also back up ur original host file if ur worried.

i use the google toolbar too to block pop ups. this file will block ads in the actual webpage, not popups
