|
|
Just finished building my first system and I find that my CPU is running a little hot. (Abit IC7-G w/ 2.8C and stock HS and fan.) At 50% its temp is 50-54C.
I installed the stock Intel HSF and used the thermal compound that came was pre-applied. I want to remove the HS, clean up the CPU and HS, apply some AS5 and remount . Hopefully I will lose a few degrees C. I am also mounting a 120mm intake in front to go with the 120mm at the back of the case. .
So I have installed it but never removed it. Is there a trick. There is about 40hrs. on it so far. I’m hoping that it has not cemented itself to the cpu.
Advice and suggestions please. Just to let you know, before a couple of weeks ago I had never see the inside of a computer so I am pretty green at this. Please over explain if you would.
Thanks
Don

the newer abit p4 motherboards have been known to read temperatures higher than actual. a thermal probe is just about the only way to measure the cpu temp properly. there is no fix so far.
if you still want to use some as5, you can take the heatsink off of the cpu. it may stick a little but i'll come off. you may then procede to clean the heatsink and the top of the cpu with isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) and cue tips. remove all of the debris including the stock thermal pad. when the heatsink and processor are cleaned well, you can apply as5. you should notice a nice little drop in temperature. make sure you follow the as5 directions. many apply too much of the compound and get bad results. if you follow their advice and put a thin layer on (just barely so you can still see the core of the cpu) you should do fine.
hope this helps. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

I tried to download it from abits website but I can't find it anywhere. It did not come with my utility disc. It was called "Winbond Hardware Monitor"
Im hoping I dont have to flash my bios to get it. I don't really want to. You know the mantra; If it aint broke don't fix it .
