questions about dsl.

Sadly I am stuck with 56k. Ive been checking constantly if dsl or cable is available in my area for prolly a few years. Is there anything I have to do, like call my phone company and have then do something to the line so i can get dsl? or what? Just wondering, also does anyone know the difference between ADSL, SDSL, and IDSL?

* and I am not very far from the CO about 1/2 a mile or so and Ive read that i am well within the distance limit.
any ideas?

i know for DSL and the companies that offer it have items on their websites where you enter your 10 digit phone number to see if your line qualifies... and it only takes like a minute to check... who is your phone service provider? I know verizon does this on their website and i think AT@T has cable... but check it out...

we used to have sbc for phone, now we have mci.

hmm does MCI have dsl? im not sure they do... but i do know yahoo and sbc is a good DSL provider... but if you have the doh to spend and have cable access then Cable internet is WAY faster... i have DSL on because it was cheaper with my phone plan then cable was... but the bandwidth is noticeably faster with cable... also gaming was much nicer... playing online
