I just recently built a new system, I have a:

MSI KT3-Ultra 2 w/ USB 2.0 DDR333 mobo
AMD Athlon XP 1800+
CoolerMaster CP5-6J31c up to AMD XP 2600+ cpu fan
512 megs DDR ram
Enermax CS-3051L-S3A case
and a Enermax EG301P-VB(FM) 300W psu

now, when ever i walk into my room where the computer is it smells like the comp is overheating (i know it sounds kinda crazy) but i checked the air that the fan is blowing out of the case and it feels fairly cool, and i switched the fan on the side of the case to blow air into the case instead of blowing air out of the case.

so... can anyone tell when why the computer smells likes its overheating, you can smell it as soon as you walk into the room, its very odd. well, thanks for the help.

Sounds like a power supply has popped something. They will do that at random and doesn't have to be under extreme load to go bad.

Remember, it's electronic and therefore it will go whenever it wants to.
