Reviews I've read says it doesn't overclock very well, though. Last time, when I had my generic PSU, when I raised my FSB bit by bit, I suddenly hit a point where the video card overclock could no longer run properly (artifacts like crazy!).
Anyways, the highest I got was about 1900 mhz (13.5 multiplier), stock is 1790mhz.
will my new 420W Thermaltake PSU help with the whole CPU overclock? |
Sounds like you didn't lock your AGP bus speed. Never leave that set to auto. Alway set it to 66mhz. _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

strangely enough, I don't see that control in my mobo bios.
unless it's the one that says "AGP Performance Control". But it's either enabled or disabled. And that's it. _________________ AMD Athlon XP 2200, 512MB DDR400 RAM, HIS Radeon 9550 256MB video card, Asus A7V8X-X mobo, 3 LED case fans, some CD-ROM drive and some floppy drive from an old computer.

Oops, i just noticed that you have the a7V8x. That has a via (kt400?!?) chipset and will NOT allow you to lock the AGP speed to 66mhz. I thought you had the nf2 (N not V).
What was your fsb running at the time? Anything over 140mhz might cause the problems you are seeing.
Have you tried rasinge the vcore too? _________________ JayDubya aka JW Jay JD ^> ﺵ |

haven't tried raising the v-core. no idea on what the fsb is running at, although I set my memory to 400FSB for sure (but I believe that number jumps up as I raise the CPU FSB).
soo.... I might just leave the CPU alone :) see how it goes.
Apparently, this chip doesn't have very good overclocking capabilities. _________________ AMD Athlon XP 2200, 512MB DDR400 RAM, HIS Radeon 9550 256MB video card, Asus A7V8X-X mobo, 3 LED case fans, some CD-ROM drive and some floppy drive from an old computer.

Very good post its always good to see a variety of info and techniques from different sources! Make a habit of copying and keeping it for referance ! Im by no means no pro Overclocker just like to try my luck and see how far I can take my system without smoking it! I have a problem sometimes retaining information due to medical reasons so how to,s always help me remember!
My current rig is a Phenom X3 BE 720, Radeon 4870x2 OCZ DDR3 Plat and my best OC from stock speed of 2.8 was 3.8 although not perfectly stable still working on a goal of 4ghz not sure its possible LOL but still trying to get that last little amount squeezed out of it! Still got a lot to learn but its something I enjoy! |
