The computer is Compaq Presario 6000a I believe. Its got an athlon xp 1900, 256mb ram, propietary nforce1 mobo. The fan in the PSU makes a really messed up sound some of the time, like its catching on something. It can get really loud and annoying. I've tried looking at it but I think its the bearings. I just wanted to see if anyone have a PSU that would work with this and does not sound like crap. If anyone has one or knows where I can get one tell me. Thanks.

I believe you would have to order one from Compaq, since they are dirty bastards and changed the wiring layout on their proprietary mobo plugs. They have a good deal though, if you buy a new one through hp/compaq, you can send the old one back, and get a pretty big discount.

Or, have you tried just replacing the fan in the psu? If you can solder, you can replace the fan. You don't even need to solder very well! Just remember the dangers in modding a psu. Those capacitors carry a charge even after the psu is unplugged, so read up on how to properly discharge the unit before you open it.

Good Luck.

Yeah I would be hesitant trying to mess around with a PSU, I believe I could do it, I just wouldn't want to . I'm gonna talk with Compaq and see what kind of deals they have. Thanks for the reply.

nay friend;
My old rig was a Compaq Presario 6000 for Celeron but thatshouldn't matter for the PSU.
It's a 250W PSU that works great it never gave me any trouble, I only retired it cause I got a 550W.
contact meh!
