|
|
Hi
I am searching for a Graphic card that is as fast as possible
under these conditions:
- It does not have an active cooler - i do not like the noise
- It supports Direct X 9
- It has a good quality TV-out
Can you help me?
The best I found was something like the Inno3D Tornado GeForce FX 5200 or
Soltek SL-5200-XD GeForce FX 5200.
I wonder though if this is enougth for demanding games like X2 - The Threat.
Thanx in Advance |

Sorry bro, but really there is not a decent fast graphics card with pasive cooling.
The active coolers today are really quiet and you won't be able to hear them.
The FX5200 is a budget videocard.
I would reconsider not buying an active cooled videocard, they are prone to heat failure and a degraded lifespan. _________________ Owner & Administrator

Thankx.
I know that I won't get a really fast one.
I just wondered if I could get something a bit better
then the ones I found.
Currently I have a ATI AIW 8500DV.
The fan there is slowly dying and it has been
the loudest peice in my system.
I bought some heatpipes - a company
said they would fit my card - but unfortunately
I found out the cooler is glued on.
Theoretically they should suffice for
the card though, I think.
Can you at least tell me if Geforce FX 5200
systems are faster then the one I have now
(Radeon 8500 to state clearly)?

I personally have a Radeon 9800 and i can't even hear the fan because the other fans from the system are already louder than that. Im pretty sure that your computer has fan so i can't imagine a video card fan being louder that a regualr fan unless there is something wrong with it. _________________ DiRoLoKo!! Hi there.
I know what I am talking about.
You may think that the fans of cpu and power source must be louder,
but I have bought special ones that are ultra-silent, and these are
indeed more silent then that one of the current graphic card, even
more so now that it has begon to rattle a bit.
If you want to know, these are what I have:
- MR Enermax 350 Watt/Papst (24 decibel)
- Zalman CNPS 5700D (20-25 decibel)
- a special tower casing with additional material
that keeps the noise inside
I now checked and there are even more silent power units out :)
And also, I have now found fast graphic cards that have
a passive cooler:
- SAPPHIRE ATI Radeon 9600Pro Ultimate (this one I bought)
- SAPPHIRE ATI Radeon 9800Pro Ultimate (too expensive
and too hot for me)
So you see, there IS a way for silent and fast pc's :)

No. There are no case fans.
I have to keep a look of the case temperature
once the new card is in place if it doesnt get
too hot, in which case I must find one to help
cooling - I hope I can find a VERY silent one
though.
I guess that's why you asked - worrying the
system getting to hot? |

ATI 9600 PRO would be a nice choice for a new card... which is very fast according to the price range . For $140 its a awesome deal and i would say it is definetly way better then FX5200
its not that i am fan of some think like that. but thats a fact. _________________ ----------------------------------------

Ok if u want the quietest best performing card on the market as of now, get the Gainward Geforce FX 5950 XP1800.. this thing is overclocked and scores higher than the standard 5950's benchmark wise.. plus its watercooled so u can overclock more. Not to mention how quiet it is. _________________ Aspire X-Alien 420W

Install some case ventilation would ya.
How are you going to cool a passively cooled videocard with 100 degree air. I know you want your computer to be quiet, but there gets a point when you have to think about practicality.
All computers require ventilation, if you don't, all you have a is a box of hot trapped air killing your computer components.
If you want your computer to be really quiet, don't install any case ventilation and I guarantee your computer will be dead silent, BECAUSE YOU HAVE FRIED A COMPONENT AND THE COMPUTER WON'T TURN ON. _________________ Owner & Administrator

Or, you can just watercool your computer and then itll be quite and cool of course you have to spend all that money on the WC system. _________________ DiRoLoKo!! I fix robots and wear a bunny suit for a living.....the best job i ever had, most money i ever had :) |

hey man,
avoid nvidea like a stripper with cold sores until they sort out their yard......
their cards do not support 24bit colour which means they can't run half life 2 or any other intensive games that have decided to use 24bit to ease the strain on our systems (difference between 24 and 36bit is pretty much imperceivable to the human eye). stick with ati for the mo, sapphire is a good suggestion or go for the stock model and think about adding a zalman or thermaltake heatpipe cooler.....the zalman looks like the balls!!!
