ok, i currently have windows 98 on a pc of mines. I used the upgrade windows xp cd and upgraded it to XP. But when i go to use xp none of my usb hardware is working such as my cable modem and webcam. is there anythign i can get to fix this? its a gateway pc. please help in anyway you can this is getting frusttrating. thank you

I would recommend a full format and reinstall of the OS.

The upgrades never go well and something is always missed or messed up.

Try to uninstall and reinstall all your USB devices to see if it will refresh the system manager.

Fully agree.... clean install rocks and besides... a perfect opportunity to clean up slot of those shitty programs that seems to pile up.
Another good advice, make a seperate partition for the OS, for XP make the C partition 4 or 5 GB, found this to be a good size.
And then another partition where you install all programs and store data.
That way you can keep most programme settings if you need to re install OS in the future...just install the programmes again in the same folder on the other partition and most of them will remember old settings.
