3D Mark 2001 or DirextX Error

Ok im having a problem with either 3D Mark 2001 or Dirext X. This is on my new system so apparently when I tried starting 3D Mark it gave me the "you need dirextx 8.1 or higher" error message. Well I went to the directx site and downloaded directx 9.0. Now I believe I'm having problems with 9.0 acctually installing. You've got to use microsofts own program to download directx, so it takes me about 30 minutes to download it

. But after it downloads and tells me to resart I'm pretty sure it didn't install. Shouldn't there be a DirectX Icon in the control panel when its installed? I'm getting tired of having to wait 30 minutes to reinstall DirectX every time, anyone know of a link where I can download the whole DirectX 9.0 file or just know whats going on?

I run into the same issue.

I have DirectX 9.0b. I can run 3Dmark03 but not 01.

am I just missing something or are there other steps that can be taken to run these benchmarks?

this is a good topic. do we have to reinstall dX 8.1 to run 3dmark01 or can it be run on dx9.0?

i got it. first, uninstall 3dmark01se. be sure to delete the folder it was in to get rid of those nasty error.txt logs. next, download 3dmark01se build 330. IT MUST BE BUILD 330. install dx9.0 and restart. now install 3dmark01se build 330. this worked for me i hope it works for you.

make sure its build 330 i got it here b/c it was the only place that actually worked w/fast d/l speed:

i've installed build 330 with directx9.0b on three different systems and never had any problems.
so it does work. try what jay suggested and see if that helps.

I dont know what went on. I had all these same things as before. I guess you just have install in the correct order.

Weeeeeeeeeee! It works now. For some reason, i downloaded the build 300, even though it was from the futuremark website. But that link worked and now so does 3dMark. Thanks for the help.

Oh and while I'm at it, I was wondering what some good scores are. I ran it at default settings and got 10078. Good bad or average?

LanParty nForce 2 Ultra Rev. B, AMD Athlon Xp 2500+ @ 2.1, 1gig of Kingston Value ram, ATi Radeon 9600XT 526/315 (I havent tried overclocking it yet).
