I've been "kind of" in the market for a home media player like this, however, I have a TON of movies in std DVD format (most of 'em store-bought commercial movies) and a TON of DiVX movies burned to DVDs with up to 7 movies per disc; can I attach an external USB DVD drive to this media player and play all my current movies? It seems that in just about every review of a home media player, nobody ever hooks up a USB DVD drive to see if/how it works... in fact, I can't remember a single HMP review where this was done, and this is one reason why I've held off on buying one. My current home DVD player supports DiVX playback, so it's been OK, but it's a drag having to convert & burn everything to DiVX DVDs. If this Patriot unit can play all the stuff I already have burned, plus access all the stuff I have on external HDs and on my home network, it would be a "MUST HAVE"!
Thx - great review overall - I just wish that an external DVD had been plugged in to the USB port. |

The nice thing about this player is the fact it is community supported and people are constantly making updates on it to make it perform better and support more file types. _________________ Owner & Administrator
