had this problem recently, i thought it was my desktop machine (which was full of problems) because my laptop could access it fine. also, my desktop machine was able to access it in safe mode only.

now i formated my desktop and reinstalled windows. however i cannot access the external drive, even in safe mode, and even my laptop says the same.

all give me a message saying that it is corrupt/unreadable and must be formated.

anyone know of a software or method to get into the drive?
i was depending on it for backup and so i am hoping and praying for a solution now...

Uh.....you DID unplug the external drive before formatting and installing, right?

RecoverMyFiles might work, I've used it before with decent results. It is a paid app, though. Easus is free, and will work with removable drives. Can't vouch for it, though.
