just recently started having this problem, i think its a problem with vista

when i click on firefox nothing happens, i tried system restore, and also tried to start it in safe mode but that didnt work.

occasionally my system just freezes and i can do nothing but a hard reboot (this started happening a long time ago, but thought i would mention it)

any ideas on how i can get firefox to start? i just want to back up my bookmarks and get a list of my add-ons as i am planning to just reformat anyway.

what version of spybot are you using?

Make sure it is the latest one and then go and install a2 squared free dition and do a deep scan as well.

Here is the link.

http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/

Also, uninstall and reinstall firefox and get the latest version.

If all fails, pm me, we'll get you situated on msn messenger and I can have a look at your computer and fix it remotely through remote assistance.

i ran a2. it found a 8 high risk and i removed them, quarantined the low risk.
still no dice,

if i uninstall firefox, wont i lose my bookmarks? i am going to reformat anyway and the only thing i want to do first is back those up.

please let me know when would be a good time for you to try remote assistance, or any other possibilities to try

I believe you can back the bookmarks up.

PM me when you are available and where you live.

i was able to import the bookmarks to internet explorer and then back those up.

my system is so screwed that i will just reformat now, no point in fixing so many issues:

firefox doesnt open
system hangs a lot
cant access my external drive now
overall slow performance
many more

not sure what it was, this is the first time i use vista and it took about 4 months for the system to get like this.

had xp before and never really needed to reformat except once every few years
