Solid State Question

I have a laptop with an older SATA150 interface. Does that mean I'm limited, or can I use a SATAII SSD?

Been I while since i've been on here, wonder whos still around.

I'm not sure about 2.5" drives but regular 3.5s have a jumper that allows you to set them to SATA I. Take a look at the drive and see if it has a SATA 1 jumper before you buy it. So long as it has the jumper it should work.

I know my OCZ Vertex SSD doesn't have a jumper for SATA I compatibility. I'm thinking you might be out of luck, but double check with the SSD manufacturer before you buy just to be sure.

Thats what I thought too, about the jumper. However I'll do some more digging in the mean time with the manufacturer. Either OCZ or SuperTalent is what I'll be going with.

I've checked out PNY, they are backwards compatible. So that brightens my mood on the prospect of running an SSD. Though I surely wont be getting any $700 SuPER Intel piece. I just want something more rugged and swift in my work lappy. (Cuz the only reason to use a dell, is you can still get XP PRO, and a SERIAL PORT!)

I'll keep this updated, with the more I find out.

That's good to know that PNY drives are backwards compatible! Keep us updated.

All SATAII drives will work on a SATA-1 interface just fine. You just won't be able to take advantage of the speed, but it will still function.

Thats what I have been finding out. Just wanted to make sure I didn't have to spend the extra $200 for a SATA-I spec model if I didn't have to.

Cuz I just wanted to speed up this lappy, but the lack of a dedicated vid card is making me lean towards a simple 7200rpm drive.
