Over the past week or so my computer would die after running for about an hour. All fans seems to be working fine. I thought it was an XP thing, so to test this I installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu (I think I'm going to convert, but that's another topic). Same thing still happens. So other than overheating, would the list of possibilities be too long to diagnose?

Possible PSU problem. I've had the same thing happen to me in the past, where the PSU overheated and shut down. That'd be the first place I'd look.

Could also be a failing CPU, although not as likely. What are your temps registering at?

Get some canned compressed air and blow out your power supply and get the dust bunnies out of it.

Sounds likethe PSU is overheating or failing.

Thanks for the idea. Two fluffy cats + floor level PSU = trouble. I'll swap out the PSU and see what happens. It's an old one anyway.

just blow it out, it could be fine, but just overheating.

it doesn't mean it needs replacing. Get a can of air and take it outside and blow the s*** out of it.
