So I'm running a ~30gig internal hdd that I had to salvage from an older computer since my regular one finally burned out on me. I did all I could, but I'm pretty sure the scraping and metal sounds means it's dead for good :)

Anyways, I bought a 500gig Western Digital external hdd since I found it for a pretty good deal and needed a large storage device for my digital media classes. Well I've got a couple movie files, 4+gigs, that I am trying to transfer from my internal hdd to the external, but it keeps telling me I need to clear up space before I can copy the file.

I've got ~410 gigs free on the external and ~10 gigs free on the internal which should give me plenty of extra space for the temp files created during the transfer, but I still get this same error. I moved the file into my shared folders and tried to move the file on my external hdd through a roomies pc, but I got the same error which makes me believe that the error lies within the external hdd and not with my internal one.

Is there some settings I have to change to allow my external hdd to accept large files or something? I feel rather stuck and am not sure what to do
