Alrighty, I made the mistake of Buying a pre-built gaming rig from Gateway. So far I hate it. It lags like hell and I've had sound problems with it since I made the godforsaken purchase a year or two ago. And, I spent about $6,000.00 US. I deserve to be s***, I think. Anyways! The Specs are as follows, and, feel free to pass along any obvious tweaking to make this baby run better.

Gateway FX530XL
Intel Core 2 CPU
X6800 @ 2.93GHz
2.93 GHz, 2.99 GB of RAM (Plus anoth GB of RAM that doesn't register for some reason)

I've mo clue how to pull up more detailed information about the guts of the comp. Any pointers on that would also be appreciated. x.x;

Why do you say it is laggy as hell.

What is it doing? Have you scanned for spyware and viruses yet?

Do you have Norton Antivirus installed?

I scan the computer every friday with McAfee. I really have no clue as to why it lags. And, it doesn't really lag horridly bad, and when it does it's only momentarily. It tends to feeze up at startup and the screen goes blank for a few seconds. And an example of lag: Battlefield 2 skips frames quite a bit and gets really choppy. Am I expecting too much from my computer, or what?

No, you are witnessing why no one installs McAffee or Norton anymore.

Completely uninstall Mcaffee and all it related software completely and install AVG Free Edition here.

http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?part=dl-AVGAntiVir&subj=dl&tag=button&cdlpid=10760089

when installing it, when it says where you want your updates from click the internet and check the box to remember your update settings. Other than that, the software will do its job and you won't even know it is there.

Also, download update and run these programs.

Spybot Search and Destroy

A2 Squared Fee Edition

But the one thing is to get rid of McAffee.
