Random computer death

So I've just set up my new system about 4 days ago and everything was working fantasticaly, no problems whatsoever.

Last night I'm sitting down watching some mvoies and I plug in my headphones and the computer just shuts off. dead.
After multiple attempts at turning it back on I popped her open to check if eevrything was not on fire.

my assumptions were this:

1: PSU - I figured the only part of the system that wasn't new was my 4-yr old 500W PSU and maybe that moving to a quadcore was too much for her, so I bought a new one; a 650W Antec and hooked that all up. Still no boot, so I figred maybe-

2: Case Connections - I took my case apart and made sure all of the connections were intact and that everything was looking good, still no boot, so I tried booting the computer manually (connecting the power tabs with a screwdriver, right?) and still nothing

and of course, it always comes up,

3: Motherboard - if it wasn't for the fact that my motherboard is getting power (the LED is workign fine), has absolutely no blown transistors or chips, and is only 4 days old (with perfect working order during those days) I would think it'd be the MB ...

I dunno I really hope someone can help me with this or throw some sugestions, my job and day-to-day life needs the use of my computer

First of all, let's have a list of all the hardware you're using.
I'm particularly intereseted in the last act that seems to have caused the problem. Do you have a sound card and where did you plug the headphones into? Back or front panel connector?

ok hardware:

CPU - Intel Q6600 Quadcore
MB - Intel DG33TL
RAM - 2GB Gskill DDR2 (5-5-5-15 if that matters)
HDD - WD 500GB SATA
PSU - Antec 650W Truepower Trio
GPU - Radeon X1800PRO

As for the sound port no, my case has 2 sound ports on the top my the power switch, which is why I thought maybe something broke loose when I put the plugs in, but to no avail

Oh and no I don't have a sound card, its just the stock onbaord sound

I was affraid you'd say that T_____T I suppose the final test is to put it back with my old setup (Athlon 3500+/ LANParty NF4 Ultra/ 2gb Corsair DDR)

Will the HDD have problems booting on the older setup because it was fromatted and installed with my new one? I'm not sure how Vista handles that kind of transfer

its gonna be really screwy especially with vista drivers and may not run at all. If you can, get a spare hard drive for your old system while you rma the motherboard that you have and install a fresh install on it and put in your regular hard drive as a slave so you can still get to your files. It sounds to me like the board shorted when you plugged in the head phones. As far as I am concerned that qualifies you for an RMA because the speaker lines should not fry your motherboard.
