For sure. I would steer clear of both AMD and ATI for the moment, with the recent merger its going to take them a while to get things ironed out and come up with some real competition for intels current monopoly on good value / performance. Mergers put a lot of strain on business while everything is worked out but I think in the long run it will be a good move. Wait about a year before looking at AMD again.

For CDN$328 you can get a Q6600 quad core.

That would be friggin REALLY quick.

For that money I would say go for a good brand using either the intel p35 chipset or if DDR3 isn't important to you you could go for an Nforce 650 or higher based board. Just be sure that if you go for a 1333FSB CPU that the motherboard you get supports it out the box, you don't want to go messing about with bios flashing and second CPUs etc.

The CPU Nate suggested would be awesome with any one of the above chipsets. Try and stick to good name brands for the mobo though like ASUS, DFI, Abit, MSI, EVGA etc you don't want to waste money on something with poor power caps or other bugs. Planning is very important in any sytem build, do your research and post your findings here and we'll be glad to help you make a good choice.
